New member trying to break old pool store habits and find an inexplicable source of copper...

Hello, folks.
I just did the first tests with the Taylor K-2006C.
FC = 0.5
CC = 1.5
TA = 60 ppm with 25 ml sample test and, 50 ppm with 10 ml sample test.
CYA = 35
pH = below 7.0, did pH base demand, took 6 drops and per table add 3.85 lb of sodium carbonate 100%
CH = 675 - took very many drops, had a hard time determining exact time it went from purple to blue.
Input data into the pool math app which advised to add 1.6 gallons of liquid chlorine.
Have not done anything yet to see if anyone is online tonight.

Tonight, add 5ppm of liquid chlorine now.

Get one box of 20 Mule team borax, they come in 4lb1oz boxes. Nothing else. Get a 5 gallon pail. Put whole box (assuming it is the 4lb) in the pail, fill with hot water and mix/dissolve. Pour in front of a return slowly pump running. If there are granules in the bottom, don't pour them in pool, add more hot water and mix until dissolved. Leave pump running. Test your pH 30 minutes later. If the color matches any color range that is 7.2 or higher, start your SLAM.

Only add chlorine and 20 mule team for now.

Is 5ppm the calculation that the app recommended?
I'm definitely going to be following directions precisely. So thank you.
 
Use pool math. Upper left, three lines, press it, select effects of adding.
Look on your chlorine, it should have a % sodium hypochlorite. Use that for %.
Adjust the amount until it tells you the FC will add 5ppm. Add that amount.

We like precise. We will get you fixed up. Proof-->How Clear is TFP Clear?

Great. That on the app stated to add 1.1 gallons. Will do now. Aquiring 20 Mule in the morning. Same stuff I used on cloth diapers a decade ago, coming back into circulation.

So you understand what we are doing.

pH below 7, is not good for the pool. pH of 7, I might start you on the SLAM, but your yellow is a little to light for my liking. Like you said below 7. Good read.

When TA is higher, like 80 or above, pH will rise on its own.
But, your TA is 60, on the low end. It might take a while for pH to rise, and I don't want your pool to endure low pH during SLAM.

Baking soda raises TA without raising pH.
Borax raises pH, and adds a little TA.
Washing soda would raise both TA and pH.
I was just looking for alternatives you had we could work with.

Let's get pH up a bit so you can start slam. Borax will do that.

When we get you fixed up, you should RARELY have to use Borax, or baking soda, and likely NEVER need washing soda. It was only for purposes of this situation.
