Hello and thanks in advance for any advice you may have . We had the older version of the 12x24 (10x23 then) Intex pools for 16 years, ours actually were labeled as "Zodiac" back when we purchased ours. It was cartridge filter with oversized pump which helped but still required constant attention to maintain proper levels etc. We took it down three years ago as its life cycle had ended......

So, our daughter has convinced us we need to continue teaching our newest grandchildren to swim as we did with her first, so we entered the game again with a new 12x24 with the sand/saltwater system. I have already found many posts on here that have helped me from set up to now and this site has been VERY helpful!!

As many have stated the Intex instructions for startup and daily maintenance are vague at best. My current dilemma is How long do I run the chlorinator for each day? And do I have to also run a filter mode for a separate set of hours or does the chlorinator cycle also cover the needed filter cycle as it is filtering as it chlorinates?

I finally figured out the Boost mode after three days and after running it last night until this morning I actually have chlorine in the pool, so the process is working :)

Welcome to TFP.

Run the SWG for as long as it takes to maintain the FC needed for your CYA level. The Intex SWG has no % adjustment. So it runs at 100% for as long as you run it.

I use an Intex SWG. In the dead of summer I run it 5-6 hours per day and haven’t had any issues maintaining a TFP clear and sanitary pool. You’ll need to figure out how much FC you lose a day and adjust your run time accordingly. I use Pool Math to calculate the run time. I typically have it scheduled to start at 5:15am.

Your mileage will vary from mine due to climate differences.

Thanks, good to know that there is zero adjustment for that and that run time will be my only control!
I ran it on Boost last night and added one gallon of liquid and this am the FC was pretty high, so I will try and monitor now, I think I will start with 8 hours a day given our Arizona dry heat and adjust from there as needed.

Appreciate the input, I will check out Pool Math!
