IC-40 Dead???

Dang it!! Just went out to test again and I got FC of 5. I think I just remembered that you're supposed to hold the bottle vertical when dropping? Pretty sure I didn't do that last time (kind of 70 degreeish) but I did this time so maybe 5 is correct?
Either way I'm going to run overnight and test again in the morning.
Why am I so bad at this??

10 hours (?) @90% should make a little over 4ppm and you only made 1 FC. If you lost another 1 FC last night like you did the night before it still doesnt account for the missing 2 FC.

Maybe the cell lost one polarity and is only producing half the time it claims. But the primary cause is not CYA, so we've ruled that out. I would SLAM on a prayer that there is a light algae bloom. It'll be a quick one with clear water either way and I'd sleep better about replacing the cell afterwards if it didn't work.

Or use whatever production the cell gives you and supplement with LC daily until it dies. If i had to lug jugs, I'd rather lug half the jugs than all of them. 😁

Ugh. Alright - SLAM it is. Watched the video and re-read the process. Just put another 32oz of acid to get PH down to 7.2 (it was 7.8) and dumped 256oz of LC in (per pool math to get me to FC of 20. CYA is at 50. I also turned SWG to 0% - it stays that way correct?
With my water already being clear do I do the OCLT tonight or go at least until tomorrow night?
Not sure if this is taboo on TFP but any recommendations on where to pick up a new IC-40? With my luck mine is toast.

Yup. (y) You're already fast forwarded to the end stages. Good times.

Marina pools and spa in Denver is competitive and sometimes fantastic. But either way they are always super helpful. (You have to call for the best deals)

Nice!
I checked out Marina and price looks good (comparatively speaking...). Do you still get the manufacturer's warranty when buying online? I read somewhere that you don't which is why the local pool stores cost more?
One more question - if I'm doing the OCLT tonight do I shut the pump down or leave it run with SWG at 0%?

I don't know what youre talking about. You called your local brick and mortar pool store and she sent you one. The internet and its regional sales rules weren't involved. (Wink wink).

Also, I consider Denver local when compared to Sydney. 😁

If you run the pump overnight you dont need to mix it for 30 mins before the morning test. That saves valuable sleep if youre not already up, or valuable anxiety time pacing back and forth waiting for pump to mix it if you're up anyway.

SWG 0% either way.

Just checked at 5:30 and it was 18. Added more. Sun is on its way down so I'll probably just check the level after dark for the OCLT.

Do these drops in FC throughout the day seem normal? It is hot and sunny and the SWG is off so maybe? Is this a function of the CYA (50) not being able to sustain the large amount of chlorine?

Possibly. FC burns off faster at higher levels so SLAM has normal everyday burnoff, the excessive burnoff, and whatever the algae consumed.

Once we are sure you are algae free we will raise the CYA if youre seeing more than 4 FC loss per day. Its very possible the subjectivity of the test is getting you and the CYA is lower than 50. Consider getting the standard sample to compare with a known value.

You lost me on "the standard sample to compare with a known value". Not sure what that means?
This: Link-->R-7065 CYA Standard 50ppm (2oz)

It is water with 50ppm of CYA. Use the standard sample in place of your pool water, add the reagent, mix, fill to the 50 line, and that is what it should look like when you are done.

These are really good instructions: Print it out and use it when you do your CYA test.
