Good morning, thanks to this forum I have been able last year to solve several issues and do my own maintenance with the pro kit.
Next week i’ll open the pool (a pool guy is doing that). He’ll of course do all start ups chemical etc, but after that, i’ll do my own.
Do you hve any tips on what to look for at least at the beginning or it is just regular testing as usual? I mean are there any level i should be particularly concerned AT the beginning or anything i should be expecting or it is business as usual? Should i leave salt chlorinator at the low setting as in season? Any tips you can share is greatly appreciated.

Before you turn on the SWCG, test the salt level using the drop method such as found using the Taylor K-1766 test kit.
What test kit do you have?
CYA, FC and pH are always the first ones to test but a complete test of all is best before adding any chemicals.
Check to determine if pool is clear? Any visual algae?

If youre not ready to tackle the mechanical side, that's one thing. Also, opening is a joke from the mechanical side. If your cover is heavy, get some friends or neighbors. It only takes a couple mins. Like 2. Once it's dry, it light enough for 2 people or maybe even 1.

Then you unscrew some things, screw in some other things and gravity floods the plumbing. 15 mins tops. (Your first time will be much longer fumbling through it but we will help)

Anywho, I wouldn't let anyone touch my water, so I advise you handle the chemical side of it. Mix it well and post your #s and we'll walk you though it.

I have the pro kit test with magnetic stirring. Ok so do all tests even before start up chemicals are added?

I rather hav someone opening and closing so that i have someone to call if something major happens and do maintenance when i am not home for longer periods…

Think of how much money you'd have to convince them if they said no.

*something happens on year 5*

Can you help?

'No we aren't taking new clients'

*looks at $7k savings pile*

'Can you help for an extra $1000?'

Hi guys:

Salt 2500/3000 (surprised that the pool store read was 1000)
FC 22 (yesterday they added a gallon of liquid chlorine to shock)
Calcium 175
Total alkalinity 60 (affected by high chlorine)
CYA 50
PH 7.5

Pool look crystal clear.
Should i switch of swcg?
Any other suggestions?

THANKS

Yeah, turn it off, and let FC come back down into range for your CYA. Link-->FC/CYA Levels
Then turn it back on.
In the future, tell them you want a "no chemical" opening at a reduced cost.
You can handle startup.
Totally also because the only thing they put is LC…..
Just surprised about their salt reading at 1000. They were ready to add 200 LBS of salt…..crazy

Salt, CH and CYA need 24 hours to mix at opening the same way they do during the season.
I’ll keep testing daily but i opened it thursday and kept motor on and tested it 35 hours after it. Tomorrow i’ll check again. Salt reading on swcg says 3000 is it reliable?

Should i use some hydrogen peroxide to lower FC? I am afraid is going to take forever to get to 3-4 from 20/22…

No, just be patient, it will come down. FC of 20 is SLAM level for CYA of 50. Safe to swim up to and including 20 FC with CYA of 50, IF you can see the bottom of the deep end.

It'll be the clearest water you ever saw and you might even stop it drifting a bit early, not wanting to go back. #teamrunhot gains new members everyday.

But yeah. I never see a need to spend money on something harmless that happens for free.
