Hello all,
I'm new here. I have a 32k gallon in-ground pool in LA, currently having issues with my Raypak 407A LoNox pool heater. It's about 3 years old and on first start it starts just fine, but after it has reached target temp shuts down and tries to restart to reheat I get a Main Ign Failure. When it's turned on after a short rest (Stil hot) the Pilot lights blower turns on and for a split second the burners light then immediately shuts off. It does it 3 times before it locks out for 6 min. I've already had bad experience with the contractor who installed it so I cannot call them. They ghosted me when the Spa blower went out and I ended up doing a warranty claim myself.
  • Removed Piot tube and checked for blockage
  • Pilot light is lit and burns super clean so much so I can hardly see it.
  • Just replaced ignitor
  • Once pilot light is light ignitor does not sound as loud (I dont think this happened when it was new)
  • I cannot see all the burners, but the outer one is burning blue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im thinking about removing the burner tray just to get a better picture of how it works but I'd rather not.

If you can see the burners, which is hard on a LoNox unit, are they all lit when it does light the first time? Also, it could be that the flame sensor is dirty.
RayPak usually uses the pilot assembly as the flame sensor as well. If you remove it and lightly clean it with a light abrasive, like a Scotch scrubber or even a newer dollar bill (old HVAC trick) it may solve your issue. NEVER use sandpaper.
Once the pilot is lit you should not hear anything from the ignitor if the system recognizes it is lit. If it keeps sparking, it is most likely the flame sensor.
