Moving Pool Equipment - Newbie

I'm planning to build a deck and have to move my pool equipment. The heater is broken so I'm just focusing on the variable speed pump and sand filter. I'm planning to attach 2" PVC schedule 40 and extend my drain and 2 skimmer lines about 20 feet. My pool equipment now is sunken in and causes rain water to flow towards the house. I don't want to put in a new pad in the existing location and the new deck doesn't leave any room for this equipment. I'm based in central NJ and have a 35k gallon 20x40 vinyl pool. Was planning to dig a 18 inch trench and leave it exposed until I open the pool in June just incase there are any leaks. Any tips or suggestions from this group? Appreciate any advice.

I'm going from black poly to PVC. Would you cut the black poly and insert a 1.5" barbed adapter, run the pvc to the new location and get new unionized ball valves? Any sites you would suggest to purchase from?

What's the best method to remove pipe fittings from the pump? I'd really like to replace the tiger striped pipes but the fittings are glued to the pump.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to TFP Newbie.

The existing pipes unscrew from the intake and return on the pump. Get Hayward High Temp Unions to replace them and glue your new pipes to.

What are you going to fill the trench with? Gravel around the pipes?

Get rid of all the flex PVC on your equipment and as much of the black pipe in the ground. Use all Schedule 40 pipes and fittings. Do not use fittings for DWV.

A plumbing supply store such as Ferguson, will have both the irrigation adapters along with all the pvc parts you need.

Ditch the tab feeder while you're at it. Use a floater ($14) if the need ever arises.

Although there’s a tab feeder, I don’t use it. I’ve been following the guidance on this forum.

I’ll look for a plumbing supply shop but want to make sure I got the right list of items.

I posted before about moving pool equipment. I'm planning to break up concrete and put pavers around my 20 x 40 vinyl liner pool in NJ. I have to change the coping which involves a new liner, liner track, and side mount extrusion. I'm planning to hire a pool company to install the liner and side mount extrusion, as well as replace my 1.5" poly lines with 2" rigid PVC for 2 skimmers and 2 returns. I'm planning to move the returns to different locations in the pool to improve water movement and circulation.

I had a pool company come to quote the job and they said my proposed design would be problematic. My existing equipment is 32 feet from the pool and my proposed design would be 50 feet away from the pool. The pool person said that pool equipment should be within 20 feet of the pool. He said if I kept my existing design, I'd need a very powerful pump. I was planning to get a Pentair intelliflo3 3HP but he said I'd need something more powerful since the distance is so great. Or relocate my equipment pad closer to the pool. He wasn't a fan of Pentair and was pushing Hayward.

I just had someone pour a new 3x8 equipment pad next to my shed so I was upset that I wasted money if this is in fact true.

I also was planning to get a Raypak 406 399BTU and the pool person said that I couldn't put this heater next to my shed. It could start a fire. Again, he insisted that I consider relocating my equipment pad to a location closer to the pool.
I looked up the instruction manual for the Raypak 406a and it just says 6 inches clearance behind the heater (which my proposed design would fit).

Can anyone share their thoughts on the length of the run from the pool as well as the heater proximity to the shed?

Attached is a mockup of the proposed vs existing layout.

Your pool guy is giving you nonsense about distances. You can put the equipment 100' away without a problem. Issues can come in with changes in elevation, not distance.

That’s what I thought but I wanted a second opinion. Looks like I’ll be looking for another company. Thank you.
