Pentair Easytouch PL4/PSL4 Wireless Setup

I just bought a 2nd home which has a Pentair Easytouch PL4/PSL4 setup. I currently am a longtime Hayward person, so I am very familiar with their systems, but new to Pentair. The pool has a spa. There antenna mounted outside, however all the interior equipment is missing. I need to know what I need to control the spa, and control pool functions. I am looking for very minimal control, just enough to turn things on and off, even if just the spa.

My understanding is I need a new outdoor antenna that is matched with a indoor wireless receiver. That will allow me to use the app. I may or may not also need a protocol adapter? Can someone confirm if I need the protocol adapter or not? 502500 I believe is the model number? I imagine it is cheaper to use a phone app than purchase some type of remote? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I found a used screentouch remote and antenna locally. I am just wondering if I can plug the indoor wireless receiver directly into my router, or will I need to get the protocol adapter as well. Just looking for the cheapest solution to turn things on and off. Pics attached for reference of existing setup. Thanks

James

J,

You are missing the Protocol adapter... This 'adapter' changes the 4 wire RS-485 signals into Ethernet signals that can be connected to your home network.

Do you have the Protocol adapter??

I notice your system is in the Service mode.. It would normally be in the Auto mode.. Nothing will automatically work in the Service mode.

Do you normally keep it in the Service mode?? If so, that would be odd..

Thanks,

Jim R.

The Wireless Remote has a built-in transceiver it only needs the outdoor antenna. Be sure you purchase a remote for your PSL4 system aka Easytouch Lite. The remote you pictured is Easytouch. Usually you buy the Remote and outdoor antenna as a kit - but if your outdoor antenna is functional you could purchase just the remote and save a little $. The ScreenLogic protocol adapter is 520500 or sometimes listed as 520489. It's also available bundled with the wireless connection kit p/n 522104

J,

You need an outside antenna and an inside antenna, if you use a wireless Pentair remote... AND the two antenna's must match and come as a set...

I would use ScreenLogic and a PC and/or phone... But that is just me... I have no 'respect' for Pentair remotes..

Let's see what Tom says, @ogdento He is stuck in the 60's and likes Pentair remotes... :poke:

EDIT... My bad, I was thinking about something else.. Not sure if the Wireless remotes need to be matched to the outside antenna or not, but Tom will know..

Thanks,

Jim R.

You have full program/control capabilities at the PLS4 outdoor power center. No sure how simple you'd like to keep it but a simple Pentair spa-side remote can turn on four functions including pool, spa, spa heat, aux circuits and feature circuits. You don't have to mount it in the spa. Mount it to where you can get the cable - on a fence, back wall of the house etc.

I do like a pentair remote! Actually I prefer an indoor controller - both of them "back up" all of your settings and programming, something Screenlogic doesn't do.

But I also have a Screenlogic (protocol adapter) with a wireless link (Jim I'm into the early 2000s now!). I think the wireless link is what Jim was getting atwhen he said you need an indoor and outdoor antenna - and that the codes must match.

If you want to get a remote, and depending on what firmware is on your Lite you could also just "upgrade it" to a full Easytouch (snip a jumper), and then you don't have to go searching for a Lite remote.

If you're handy there's also the option of connecting a DIY remote to the 6-position terminal block where the IS4 remote (spa side remote that @japoolspa mentioned). I recently bought a 4-button wireless remote and receiver from Aliexpress that will do the job... just haven't tried it yet.
