Slamming, am i on the right track?

Hello
I have a 15000 gal saltwater pool. It had been covered, not in use for 3 years. Removed the leaves, raised cya to upper 20s, started shocking, and added algecide. Flocked twice, didnt make much difference. This was before I found pool school, pool math app. Started a slam since March 30th. Cya in the 20s says my target is 10 ppm chlorine. I have maintained this pretty well with the exception of all the rain we have been getting. Lowest fc was 6 which I brought back up right away. I have been using 65% cal hypo granules, brushing, and vacuuming almost daily. Water is still cloudy, dark but I can see about 3 ft down. Went to leslies today, just to see how my chemistry looked. Will post results below. I am using the taylor fas dpd test kit for chlorine tests. Anything is should do differently? Seems like clarity progress has stopped.
Fc 6.69 brought up to 11.5 now
Tc 7.87
Ph 7.87
Ta 102
Ch 126
Cya 24
Iron 0
Copper .3
Pho 196
Salt 2616

Welcome to TFP!!! :shark:

Please post test result from your test kit, not the pool store.
We recommend using liquid chlorine for the slam.
When your CYA is between the lines, round up to the next 10 for chlorinating. Your CYA is 30.
Did you test your CYA, or are you just using the pool store testing?
You should use your testing for all chemical adjustments.
How often are you testing and replacing FC?
What type of filter do you have?

Like said above, don’t trust the pool store tests.

I am using a poolmaster 5 way test kit. Unfortunately does not have the cya test so i have been going off the pool stores tests for cya. I have a sand filter, and am testing several times a day, and adding necessary fc. Trying to vacuum daily, and brushing.
Here are my test results this morning from my test kit.
11.5 fc same as last night
.5 cc down .5 from last night
7.8 ph
100 ta

Am I only missing the cya test?
You also need a K1515 (fas/dpd chlorine test) and a Calcium test.

The drop chlorine test you're using is vague and also inaccurate. It's basically a liquid test strip. Maybe it's between 5 and 8. Kinda. *if* it's even right. Slam needs actual #s,

You're free to buy the 3 parts your missing, but then the existing ones will either expire much earlier or run out and you're probably just best starting over. It might be cheaper too, or at the very least its plenty close enough. (We've done this thousands and thousands of times with newbs and skip all the boring parts :))

Unlike the pool store, we have nothing to sell and if we're recommending it, it's in your best interest. (We recommend but don't sell test kits)

Ok guys, got my tf salt pro test kit. Here are my results.
6 fc
.5 cc
3000 salt
5 tc
7.9 ph could be lower, was a shade in-between 7.8-8.2
40 cya
250 ch
110 ta
Pool is cloudy, but getting a little better. Can barely see the bottom at 3ft. 15k gal saltwater.

Have you switched to liquid Cl? The Cal-hypo will be raising your CA also. SLAM can demand a lot of CL adds, so you want to pay attention to the CA level also - or just switch to liquid, which is likely much cheaper, and avoids the issue.

Update, and a few questions
Pool is looking much better, can see the floor pretty well now, and the black algae on the wall in the deep end mostly. Pool is eating about .5 ppm of chlorine every 2 hours. Question is how soon after I add liquid shock can I retest fc? Should I worry about testing before 2 hours to see that the chlorine i added was enough according to the app? I also have some staining in different areas. Isn't slimy, and scrubbing doesn't affect it. What can be done? Attaching a photo.
Thanks guys

No. Its good to know you hit your targets at first but once your comfortable that you are, save the reagents as you're blowing through enough of them already.
