Spring is typically the time of year I need to top off my CYA. So I set up a repeating calendar event to ping me on the first Monday of February, each year, to check my supply of CYA. I happen to be low this time, so I just ordered some more. I set the date a bit early, just in case CYA happens to be in low supply. Gives me a month or so to find some.

How's your supply?

Speaking of reoccurring calendar events, I just recently added a weekly one to test my pool light's GFCI outlet. I don't regularly test any GFCI component, and never have. Just one of those things I don't think about (but should, of course). Following the advice I gave someone else here, if there's one to test regularly, it's the pool GFCI! So now I do. It's now part of my regular weekly maintenance, and considering the outlet is inches from the other things I use during my maintenance routine, and the fact that it takes seconds to test, it's pretty silly not to...

THANKS for the reminder. I totally forgot this year.

Puritech is $46 for 20lbs and it will likely go up in price, or be unavailable later.

Their Calcium is $41 for 25 lbs.

I just raided my stash for another bag of CyA and noticed it in one of our local stores yesterday for $8 a bag. $8 for 2kg (4.4lb) which would be roughly US$22 for 20lbs. Finally, something cheaper in AUS. :)

Calcium in our HomeDepo equivalent is double that so about the same. Luckerly though l rarely need calcium thanks to the thoughtful inclusion of it in our tap water.

Just buy tabs and start floating them. I rarely need more than 10-20ppm of CYA each year so using tabs is just set and forget it when it's too cold for the SWG to generate and ... bonus ... the acidity holds down the TA/pH. Twofer ...

I math $36.36 per 20lbs. Which is still $10 better by you. (y)
I rounded to AU$36 and then applied the google exchange rate which worked in my favour for once. But that was assuming I could buy 0.54 of a bag. The checkout operator would be a bit $#@&y at me for leaving 0.46 of a bag piled up on the counter.

I’ve been going through 10-20ppm of CyA a month this summer. Must be all the rain. I like the tab idea, I’ve got some unused tabs so I’ll use them next spring.

I still have a bit of my puritech hoard of cya left! Pool is still asleep 😴
I too use tabs occasionally but mainly in the dog days of summer when the pool gets hot vacations. I don’t ever need ph reduction so I must be sparing.
I’ll one up your gfci test and raise you a replacement! Something occurred between my timer’s neutral prong and my gfci it was plugged into so I am awaiting the timer replacement shipment and got the gfci knocked out today. Getting ready for spring!
Dirk, I am like you & have recurring “events” for everything! Change air filter, clean fridge coils, spray yard etc. its an A type thing I suppose 😂

I go through a lot of CYA. I have switched from the Puritech to the Doheny’s. It seems to degrade slower. I am probably one of the few people that could actually run a Tab based pools based on the rain and heat in my pool.

Who me? A type?!

Or could be just my old brain... too many chores and not enough cells left. Let's see... it's 9am... what did I have for breakfast this morning... hmm... did I eat breakfast yet this morning?

It seems CYA prices has gone off the deep end this year. My local Walmart didn't have any in stock, so I checked HD and found the same thing, $30 for 5/lb. No way. I ended up trying the Robelle brand on Amazon just to see how it was, which was $30 for 7 lbs. Still way too expensive, but less bad at least. I have one of those pools that just munches through CYA, so it'll be an annoying summer especially if we get a lot of rain.

As per @Newdude advice, I paid $46.78 for 20 Lbs ($2.34 / Lbs). That's still available on Amazon as of this writing:
The page says it takes about a week to arrive. Mine showed up a few days early.
