hot tub spillover pressure

hi all! my parents recently closed on a pool and notice that their spillover pressure is super light and the spillover simply trickles over the edge, any suggestions on how to get it to actually function like a waterfall or is that not possible with this setup?

Leb,

In your set up, the two things that effect the spillover rate, is the speed of the pump and how dirty the filter is..

One of the two is probably the cause of your limited spillover.

Thanks,

Jim R.

That's the Spa makeup line.

It is on the side with the pool returns and some of the water is going to the pool.

The line to the right is labeled Spa and it should be selected for Spillover Mode.

It looks like the main Spa Return might not have a check valve, so you will probably need to install a check valve to prevent the spa from draining back into the pool when the pump is off and the system is in Spillover mode.

The make up line allows circulation to the Spa when in Pool Mode.

It will create weak Spillover, but it is not the way to get strong spillover.

The Make up line can be a separate return to the Spa on the pool side like the poster has or it can tie into the Spa Return like in the bottom diagram.

The right side is the Spa Return.

The left side is the pool Return.

The Three-Way return valve is set to Pool.

For strong Spillover, you need the suction on Pool and the Return on Spa.

The Pool Return is closed about 50% but you still have a lot of water going to the Pool and not the Spa.

If you want 100% of the water to go to the Spa, you have to either put the Three way return valve on Spa or put it on Pool and close the Pool Return 100%.

I do have a separate single “spa makeup” return on the pool side of my returns line controlled with an automated valve. That allows me to split the return flow to the three pool returns and the one spa make up return. This allows the spillover to operate without using the spa jets.

I think the "Spa Return" is his spa makeup line that feeds the spa spillover when in POOL mode.

The pool looks like a typical Florida Pool with a tiny cartridge filter.

An undersized filter can reduce flow.

What pump do they have?

What pump speed is being used?

What Automation System do they have?

Is the pool in Florida?

You can also set the Return 3-way valve so that the Pool and Spa Returns are both open and then close the ball valve on the Pool Return Line.

This will use both Spa return lines.

You would have to use the switch on the actuator to do this.

It looks like the main Spa return does not have a check valve, which might be why it was not used for Spillover mode.

You can add a check valve to the main Spa line.

In Spa Mode, you don't need the check valve because the water pulls from and returns to the spa.

The main Spa Return probably goes to the jets and the spa return makeup line return is probably just standard returns.
