Pool opening 2024

Hi again. I just tested and my fc is 6 and ph is 7.6. Every day my fc goes down to 6 and i bring it back to 8.5. No biggie. But i test both fc and ph daily. Is this proper? I know fc is daily but ph?? Also how often should i check TA and CYA. I think i should check TA more often than CYA. But what r ur suggestions? Thank u

I do FC every 3/4 days since I know 23-25 ounces is what I need daily. TA and PH once a week. CYA about the same. For awhile I did cya 2x a week just to make sure my FC was good since I was anxious. Will be interested to see what others say as well as @Newdude however.

Ph can go weekly if it's been stable. If it's stable week over week go longer. Mines been fine since I opened in April.

CYA and TA is good monthly. The TA shouldn't change at all for you and the CYA shouldn't change often.

CH doesn't matter unless you get the gas heater.

Once you learn the pool habits it's basically the same FC loss and addition as long as non of the activities were different over those few days. PH also won't fly away on you so after the weekly testing you'll see a pattern and will be adding MA almost the same amount each time. I find CYA to lose about 5 ppm/10 days in all pools I deal with of similar size.

I haven't added MA but once this season and once last. I have to wonder if it's due to my geographical area in upstate SC? 🤔

I need to also keep a paper log showing when and how much i add of chlorine and MA. Maybe i will just look at my pool math app and all of my previous logs. Lastly. I have been trying to keep my fc at 8.5 for some leeway. Is this ok. Because as mentioned after a full hot day of sun it goes down to 6. So if i keep bringing it to 8.5 that is 35 oz of chlorine. Will use up gallons pretty quick?? If i do that every night then i will go through 1 gallin in about 4 days. So in a summer in new york that could be about 22 gallons of bleach times a little of $5 per bottle. So thats $110. Thats pretty inexpensive i just realized. Right??

It's the vinyl and the lower TA. We'll never know if it's plain ignorance for the pool store to mess with TA and Ph so often and it just so happens to be very profitable, or if they specifically try to make them out of whack because it's so profitable. Either way, you lose while they win.

But yeah. If you get TA and Ph in range they'll handle themselves for the most part with vinyl. For the plaster folks, it'll still need much less fiddling than the industry way.

You used to spend that a week. :ROFLMAO:
Remember how hard it was to deprogram you to stop adding mystery chemical after mystery chemical ? 2 years in that new gas heater is mostly paid off already. (y)

I figure I'm doing 30 gallons for the regular pool season (150 days or so) then last October I hit it with 20 FC and covered and closed). I spend $5.67 per gallon down here at Walmart with the Pool Essentials liquid chlorine

Me as well. Same price So if in my abbreviated season i go thru about 25 gallons total. Also only about $130 for the season

And all my hard work still shows
It wasn't hard work. :poke:

Feel free to fool your friends and family with how much you've labored to have such a beauty, but we know better. It was easy peasy with all that crud you *weren't* adding all the time. 😁

Hi guys. I have a question. I have been walking around my pool cardio time. Everything looks good. As u can see i am attaching 2 pics of my cake steps that have been in my pool for i would say at least since 2008 i brush them when i brush the walls etc. as you can see everything looks real clean. Just FYI i never remove them from the pool even in closing. They r quite heavy and all looks good around the base of them and the back. I do not want to take them out ever unless necessary and as stated they have been in forever. I guess i am just telling u that they do not seem to have ever caused any problems? 🙏
I know you have cake steps and I do not. But I was underwater with my snorkel and able to move the ladder 30-45 degrees out and up and couldn't believe how much "brown" dirt like substance was sitting in the crevices under the steps. Luckily I was able to get a small brush and whisk it away since my vaccum can't suck all that up. It's under the red painted lines basically in the picture since I don't have anything to go underwater for a picture

Looks like the top Of that elbow to Pipe is leaking. How far into the ground is the pipe connected to the elbow going? Cut pump off if needed and the lowest to the ground you can get to then purple primer and glue another new pool sweep or elbow onto that pipe and then cut off the upper left part pipe a few inches from old elbow and add a coupler or try and get the new elbow to meet the new small pipe/coupler.

You can also try rescue tape or ez fuse tape from Home Depot or Ace but that will only save it for a little time. I used it and it lasted a week without a peak but a free drips came down still.
