My filter pump has intermittently been having issues (separate issue), and it didn’t run today. When I got home, I noticed the spa level was 3-4 inches below the normal spillover level.

Normally, my filter pump trickles water from the pool to the spa, and has two dedicated spillover cycles each day (full pool suction to spa return), so the spa is always topped off to the spillover level. However this didn’t happen today as my pump didn’t run for the last 24 hours due to the separate pump issue, and that’s how I’m noticing the spa level dropped 3-4 inches.

What could have caused my spa to drop so much level (3-4 inches) in 24 hours? I know nobody went in the pool in the last 24 hours (I have cameras).

I am thinking either:
1. Leak in the spa
2. Check valve leaked back and let some spa volume to drain into the pool.

Anything else?

How do I troubleshoot to figure out which case it is?

7,

Show us several pics of your Equipment pad...

For most people the problem is a bad check valve... But, in your case, you are using the spillway function to run the spillover. Depending on your plumbing this should close the flow path that a bad check valve would take..

If you show us your equipment pad, we can provide some better answers.

Thanks,

Let me know if this one is clear enough. I drew what I am fairly confident the normal flow is when in pool mode. I leave that valve in the far left (just upstream of the check valve) cracked open so there is a trickle into the spa even when the pump is running in pool mode.

This stuff is all above the water level of the pool and spa. If the check valve is leaking, then is it plausible that the water would still drain given the piping is above the water level? I guess the water would have to be siphoning back?

Thinking through this, if I fully close that valve would that be a test to see if it’s the check valve?

If the spa level still drops, then that means either it’s a leak (or I suppose both the check valve and that valve are leaking, but unlikely). If the spa doesn’t drop then it’s the check valve. Right?

7,

You have an Automated valve just to the left of, and below, the tab feeder..

What is that automated valve control???

I'm not sure that your red water flow is correct, but then I don't know what is below ground..

It is for sure not the way I normally see it.

Were you trying to show me the leak path, or the normal flow of water when in the Pool mode??

Thanks,

Jim R.

The check valve on the far left and the manual Jandy valve right below it should control the spillover.. The Jandy valve controls how much spillover and the check valve is the one that keeps the spa from draining down when the pump is off..

So, your idea to shut off the Jandy valve and see if the spa still drains down is spot on.. :goodjob:

Thanks,

Jim R.

The automatic valve to the left and below of the chlorine tab feeder is for a bubbler water feature in the pool. I don’t think this would come into play for the issue I’m having.

The red lines are what I believe are normal flow.

I will try closing the manual valve below the check valve and see what happens. Thanks!
