Pool opening 2024

Just a hint from someone who had made ALL the mistakes - that back of water you make with the cover? It may be tempting to try and remove with power equipment. We did that one year, used our dogs vinyl covered cable tether to make the "balloon". Attached it to the Kubota tractor. Everything was going great, as planned. Til it wasn't - the cover was not designed to hold the weight of that amount of water and shattered. Impressive amount of pea soup pond slime. All over the bottom of the previously almost pristine clean pool bottom🙄
This isn’t me ur talking about above ?? About the O ring etc??

Hello and thank u. Would u know how much to put in?? For my pool
My bag of cellulose fiber says 3 oz by weight but that seems like a lot when looking at the package.
I would only start with a liquid cup worth. You mix it in a bucket/pitcher of water then pour it slowly into the skimmer until the psi rises by 1# - the same way as DE.

So a liquid cup worth in my graduated cylinder is that like the full thing to the top—16 oz or like only 8 oz. And exactly what will that do for me again?? Make my pump work more efficiently?? Pump harder pressure because as i put a pic up before my PSI is about18?? Right below the color change on the gauge. Wont that put it into the “bad” zone??? What does it mean when it says filter to the left and clean (red zone) to the right ?? Shouldn’t it stay in thr blue zone??

That's an arbitrary # from the factory. They don't know anything about your pool or it's plumbing. I hate those things because they fool so many people.

Take your clean baseline and backwash when it rises 25% for a custom tailored approach to your specific setup. (y)

Hang tight for cellulose thoughts. I've never used it with carts. :)

A liquid cup is 8oz. I was referring to using about that much worth dissolved in a pitcher of water.
Using cellulose fiber or DE is purely optional to help your filter catch finer particles which in turn increases psi because the sand gets dirty faster which then means you reach the 25% over clean pressure threshold to backwash more quickly. When using de or cellulose fiber supplements they are washed away when you backwash so it’s something you can just choose to use on occasion if you like.

Ignore the red on your gauge & pay attention to the psi numbers.
Your time to backwash is when psi is 25% over your noted clean pressure.

If you’re happy with the results you are having now without a de or cellulose fiber supplement then don’t worry with it.

I appreciate and if u like my numbers them i am fine with that 😊 And i guess my psi is about 16 or do. So 25% over would be about 20. If it hits that i will definitely backwash

As luck would have it, the red and blue sides kinda line up with that. It's dumb luck though and would be an epic fail at my house running 4 psi. Or if you swapped your pump for a VS or 2 speed down the road and also ran low speed.

??? But mine is about 16 or so. So i am good. Is that s normal psi for my pump and setup??are there any guidelines Also bring that my CYA is still 50. Can i lower my target FC below what i have been keeping it at which is between 8 and 9. I know the target is between 6-8 and the minimum is 4. So what number should i shoot for….7????

No two pool rigs are the same. And there's a bazillion combos.

You may go as low as you feel you can while remaining free and clear of min at the next dose. 5 or 6 would be my absolute min. There no need to play kissy face with min at 4.

Now remember, it's a moving target. When demand increases soon, you'll have to add more to remain above min at the low point. After mid season, demand slooooooowly falls for the back half of the season. Then you lower the dose accordingly as needed.

Any ideas. I am skimming for an hour during this windy afternoon and it just keeps on coming
I'd accept that I lost the battle and vac them out tomorrow or whenever it lightens up.

I remember them giving you a hard time last year and wanting to rig up a netting or such.

I know what these look like in person because I had them at the old house. It was insane to see a million little flashing rainbows all over. I haven't replicated it at the new house yet.

U guys have made me realize my potential and dreams. But now for my next trick. Ha ha. We may want to look into getting a heater. We had one once many years ago but as u know my chemicals were not right. I was told after the heater broke or stopped working that the heating rods were all corroded because the rods rely on a well balanced pool. Nonetheless we had the guts of that heater replaced and very soon after it stopped working again. Very expensive. We also had a gas line put in to run it as well since it was a gas heater. We r thinking of trying again but i understand that therr is a different type of heater called a “pump heater”???? It runs sort of like an air conditioner but in reverse. It takes in cool air and emits warmer air. If i read correctly it costs more to purchase but is less expensive to run??? Is that correct?? If anyone can help me learn about this or any ideas about them i would love to research these. Pool was quite cold today. We loved it but would he better if warmer for all that enjoy the pool. Thanks for reading my long drawn out chat but looking forward to seeing what might be the future for my pool. So any ideas of the typed etc and how they run and their reliability for a so called longer amount of years without problems.
I just wonder hoe long the old gas heater would have lasted had i known u guys way back when and had my pool so well balanced or should i say chemical free

(Electric) heat pump.

You got it. (y)

Well, it fluctuates just like your AC bill but in reverse. When the air/water is warm it doesn't need to do much and it's very efficient and cheap. When the air/water is cool, it bogs down like an AC in August and the bill spikes.

The gas heater has 3X the BTUs but always sucks the same amount. It's nice when you need the BTUs extending the season, but stinks when it's expensive mid season.

Are you looking to extend the season or just warm the pool during your existing season ?

Most definitely during the season. I dont believe I or my family would use the pool before June 1 or after mid September
