Pool opening 2024

remember I have a SAND filter-- is this Pool Grade DE OK for a sand filter
Lol. I just did as I was looking up the ones you posted. The DE filter aid probably wont hurt you. You just need something to 'dirty up' your filter so it filters finer particles faster. (Why we're adding DE to a sand filter)

The HTH probably is fine for you.

Or the Dicalite (option 1).

This scares me-- reading that post said his pool became cloudy after using the HTH Filter aid--- so I am concerned about that, being that I am still newly trained and am working very hard at this. So in your heart of hearts - should I stay with the Dicalite DE bag for $34.99 to be really safe?

@Mdragger88 uses the HTH. She has sand too and does not have it in her heart to steer anyone wrong. I'll go with that for that alone.

If they were the same size I'd say go with the decalite because it's just straight DE,. but 25lbs is a 1.5X lifetime supply for you. Maybe a 2X.

The 1.5 lb bag you found was food DE, not pool DE.

Good AM to all. Just brushed and vacuumed the pool. Now going to do backwash after clarifier last night. Pool much clearer but still aqua color not blue like last year. What will bring back that gorgeous blue color i had last year. Left pic is just now. Right pic is last yearl

Last question. After testing the FC. I let the solution sit while i was testing the pH. About 5 or so minutes later i noticed that the solution regained the slightest tint of red. Does that mean i have to add more drops to make it clear again or that is what happens when u leave the solution sit for a while

. I think its closer to 7.8
I'll go with a high 7 as well. So it's fine. Move along. Lol.

About 5 or so minutes later
Finish any test and move on. When they sit they get wonky. None of that counts after the initial test is over.

I believe the color is still waiting on the sand filter. The water went 7 months closed and has barely been open a week, with pollen and crud falling. It'll get there.

I am going out till late tonight. Should i put chlorine in now at 3 pm or wait till the morning? It is over 80 degrees and completely sunny probably until 630 or 7 tonight?
I think you’re worried about the trees instead of the forest. Put it in now and test again tomorrow and add as needed.

Round up that CYA. Always use the next 10.

7 is a GREAT # after your daily loss. It leaves lots of wiggle room.

No idea. @PoolStored might know, he has a sand filter.

One of your connections is missing an O-ring.

Do you have a pump to get the cover water ? Once it's mostly gone you can make a sack out of the tarp to get the remaining water all in one spot with enough to pump more.
Just a hint from someone who had made ALL the mistakes - that back of water you make with the cover? It may be tempting to try and remove with power equipment. We did that one year, used our dogs vinyl covered cable tether to make the "balloon". Attached it to the Kubota tractor. Everything was going great, as planned. Til it wasn't - the cover was not designed to hold the weight of that amount of water and shattered. Impressive amount of pea soup pond slime. All over the bottom of the previously almost pristine clean pool bottom🙄
