d,The valve I open for my waste line has been broken since before we bought our house. Been opening it with a wrench whenever I needed it.
Is this something I can DIY and if so, how do I know what size valve to get?
Thank you. So I assume I need to cut the pipe at the bottom since it doesn’t have a union? I’ll have to watch some videos before I attempt this.d,
I'd rate this as very easy. 1 or 2 out of 10. Looks like the piping is a little off square but shouldn't matter too much. Appears to be 1.5". I'd use one like this that has a union on both sides so you don't have to cut the pipe next time. Make sure you get a slip fitting on both ends not a threaded fitting. This helps to reduce the number of trips to the big box store!

Good point. Maybe they could just remove the valve and put a coupler in place? Or just leave it in the open position?Technically you should not need a valve on the waste line --------
I open it to waste. The equipment was installed by the home's previous owner so I don't know why it was installed.Good point. Maybe they could just remove the valve and put a coupler in place? Or just leave it in the open position?
D, when do you open and close this valve? Was it installed because water leaks through during normal operation from the filter valve?
Here's the entire pipePost a picture of the entire pipe. Does it go into the ground?
To make the connection easier, because it is not a pressure line, you can use a compression coupler to connect the cut parts.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Here's the entire pipe
If it was me, I'd probably just leave it open and not mess with it or replace with a union on both sides type of valve for aesthetics or excessively anal engineer-types like me.Here's the entire pipe
