Hey everyone, I am wondering if I got the wrong comparator in my TF-PRO SALT kit that I ordered. The images looks like it was supposed to come with a Taylor Comparator with the black top instead of the one I received which comes with yellow and red tops that are seen on the images of the TF-100 SALT. Does the TF-PRO SALT kit come with a Taylor Comparator ? I ended up adding the Borate, SLAM, and Standard Sampler Options so not sure if that affects what I received or not.

Also is there any difference between the Taylor Comparator and the one I received? I am getting significantly different readings than the pool guy who is currently servicing my pool and I suspect they are simply lying about the readings they are getting to avoid adding chemicals but I noticed they are using a Taylor Comparator so was wondering if the colors might be slightly different.

I am currently learning the ropes but will soon take over full time management of my pool. Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

The yellow/red comparator is normal and uses a slightly different reagent. Just as good.

Looks like the reagents are the same according to the TFTestkits website , just a different brand comparator.
Should work the same.

Let's see what @Sarah and Nate can add to clarify.
The Taylor K 2006 C has a larger comparator with a black cap. The red reagent in the smaller red/yellow comparator is different so make sure not to mix them up. I have both.

OP has a TF-Pro Salt test kit.

The TFTestkits used to come with the small Taylor comparator. I beleive (at least some) come with a non-Taylor comparator - but the R-0600 (chlorine) and R-0014 (pH) reagents are the same.

I know I was just assuming the comparator with the black cap was the one that comes from the Taylor k2006. The TF-Pro comes with the smaller comparator,( at least mine did) and the pH reagents are different.

The TFTestkits branded kits used to come with the Taylor 9781 comparator. Other members have posted pics of a different comparator with yellow and red covers for the comparator that they received with their TFTestkit kit.

I have no idea if both are Taylor comparators or not. But they should function exactly yhe same.

They are. The black cap one is the 'hi range' block and goes to 10 FC.

Taylor 2000 Series Comparator Hi-Range DPD/pH 7.0-8.0 - R-9056

There's also a slide calculator block and a midget block. They make a bunch and they're all good.

This is the comparator with a black cap that came with the Taylor K-1000 that came with my TF-100 a few years ago...

Hi all, I’m here to put an end to all the speculation.
The comparator in question are the Taylor 9781 (black one-piece cap) which is included in the Taylor K-1000 basic test kit. We used to include that whole basic test kit in our TF-100 and occasionally have had to use the 9781 comparator in our kits due to supply issues. For the last year or so we’ve been using our proprietary TF comparator block in our kits, which has separate red and yellow caps. The two comparators are used identically and are largely the same.
We no longer include the whole K-1000 in the TF-100, just the reagents and the block.
The current picture of the TF-Pro includes a 9781 which is misleading, so @sleepingrudi if you would like to swap your TF block for a 9781 I am happy to accommodate. Same offer to anyone who has ordered a Pro recently and felt put out.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Nate

Also, to address your original question about your pool guy: you can just use the FAS-DPD test to make sure your chlorine measurement is accurate versus your pool guy’s. Also helps to make sure you’re reading the block correctly, although the block measures total chlorine (FC + CCs) instead of free chlorine so keep that in mind.
