I can't find my receipt for the part number of the valve pictured. I had this installed based on recommendations on this site, when I added a salt cell chlorinator. Recently, my ancient MiniMax died and it was replaced with MasterTemp 440K Ng heater. There was also an Intellivalve installed when I had added the salt cell. Everything was controlled by my Intellicenter.

The new heater installers said they had to cut out the Jandy Never Lube but installed a new one along with reinstalling my Intellivalve.
Next they removed the part pictured, I think it is a check valve, and replaced it with Pentair R177228.

Question, it this, Pentair R177228, a better part than the one I originally had installed based on the advice from this forum? If OK I will let it go, but if not, I need to reorder what I had and have them put it back.

I have been reading, learning, and following the advice here for over a decade.

Thanks for the help.

Christine

Anybody? I am scouring the forum but cannot find it. I had it installed as I only use the heater at the beginning and end of the season. No reason for water to continually flow thru the heater when not in use.

This is a check valve and it will function accordingly.

A check valve does not work for this. A check valve just prevents water from flowing back. Probably used for water from the SWG not flowing back to the heater, but its not mandatory. You need a diverter path with a Jandy neverlube 3 way valve so you can divert water from the heater.

Your heater bypass setup is fine with that check valve.

I cannot find a Pentair R177228 part. Does that valve have any markings saying PENTAIR?

I was told by service they would install a check valve. I had one I thought, the clear view as pictured, and also the 3 way Jandy with intellivale. This is what they installed. I called and asked for the Pentair part number and this 172288, didn't mention that it was not Pentair.

Upon further googling this is what I found. Rainbow Plastics #172288 In-line check valve. So it is not a Pentair product. Does it do the job, should I have it removed and put in another in its place? I did like the clear view, I could get visual confirmation that it was working. To avoid this situation I sent them pictures, close up with multiple angles so they would know what I had and what they would need to bring with them, and 3 weeks to look at the pictures.

I just want to have it set up correctly, I maintain my water according to TPF, since 2010, and take care of my equipment. But I have to rely on someone for installs as I am not physically able. I appreciate your time to share advice.

R172288 is a Pentair check valve.

And looks like this...

Which is not what you have...

Yep, the R172288 is a Pentair check valve, is what they installed with the new heater. I did not see Pentair on the label and R172288 is not listed on the Pentair site, but it is in the installation manual. I should have known, as Pentair does use parts from other manufacturers, putting their Pentair label on them, but this time no label.

The clear view is what I previously had installed 2 years ago when I added the salt cell and the variable speed pump. I added the clear view as many on TFP suggested it.

Thanks for your help.
