Beach Vacation Ideas

St. Lucia is where we ended up going, but you are right... its not the easiest place to get to. People from England seemed to have much more direct flight options which was odd to me.

Regardless, it was a good trip once we got there. We celebrated our 23rd anniversary there and will save up for the Maldives or some place a bit more exotic for our 25th.

Here are some pics for anyone considering going (1st is just right outside of our hotel room, 2nd is one of the two Piton mountains on the island):

Where did you end up staying? The problem with St Lucia is that most of the resorts are on the side of the island with the SMALL airport, the larger airport that can handle the larger planes is on the other side of the rain forest that is in the middle of the island. Most places have a shuttle service that will take you on the long twisting ride through the rain forest - or you can take a helicopter.

We stayed in Gros-islet. It was a great location for the beach, just at the opposite end of the island as the airport. Our ride to the resort from the airport hit "rush hour" in the capital city, then we had to make a 15-minute stop for the car sick British couple to well... feed the fish. That made for an extra long shuttle ride of 2+ hours.

We stayed in Sandals Grande, which is basically just outside of Gros Islet. We flew into the airport on the other side of the island as well. We opted for the helicopter transport. I'm glad we did (plus it was like a mini tour of the rainforest and banana plantations)

Depending on how culturally exotic you prefer, there’s some beautiful beaches and scenery in Taiwan. It’s a pretty westernized society so easy to visit. Not sure about the water clarity though.
Just pack an AR just in case you need to be called up to repel the invaders!

I'm a fan of the Four Seasons in Maui which is off the charts and you are still in the US. You pay for it but it is amazing. My friend loved Portugal but I have no idea what the water is like. Bermuda makes Hawaii look cheap. If you never have done the Greek Islands they are amazing!
