Screenlogic wireless no longer active

This symptom almost sound like your Protocol adapter may failing. Try this. Unplug the antenna via the plug underneath and kill power to the inside stuff. Or simply unplugg the wall wart. Then take your protocol adapter and unhook the cat5 and the green (r,y,g,b) com port off the side. Take your protocol adapter and shake it back and forth slightly. If you hear what sounds like pieces rattling around your PA has most likely blown something inside. These PA I believe pentair will ship you a new one if you call them and explain what's happening. Also just for sale of it make sure your com ports are plugged in correctly. They CAN be install backwards both ways by accident. also just double check your wires inside the com port via tiny flathead are not broken at the screw. I just had one today intermittently working. His green wire underneath then indoor antenna was broken but still barley being held in the com port. Those wires are comically small and fragile. You don't have to actually use that wire. You can use any 4 wire as long as each end match up properly in com ports. Another thing to try. When you kill the power to the indoor hardware after you plug back in go outside and shut your system down as well for 5 mins then reboot via breaker. Your protocol adapter shows a red light lit when powered correct? I know this is frustrating. I've had several PA go bad that seemed to be working. They will show a connecting to relay server error and just hang or show a cannot connect to server error.
Also pentair recommends to properly reset the PA to .....To reset the Protocol adapter, use a paperclip to press the reset button THREE times in succession (with maybe a quarter-second pause between each press). As you press it the third time, the PA should slightly vibrate in your hand (like a muted phone does), and then it is reset. However killing the power for 10 seconds also does the same thing. I know I sound redundant but just making sure all areas covered. Your antennas both inside and outside when working should show pwr green solid. The middle light and trx light should blink in series every so often. Almost likes it having a spasm. Both antennas should be displaying the same pattern at same time. It's hard to see them both together as they are normally way far from eachother but that will tell you if the antennas are working right. They even sometimes make a high pitched dog whistle type sound. Some people can hear it others can't. I definitely can when I'm near the hardware inside.

I was watching the indoor unit yesterday. It would not connect to controller. Then I tried a firmware update on the PA. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the SL app. Still would not connect to controller.

This morning it connected right away (when I started the screenlogic app). So I tried suggestions. Unplugged indoor equipment. Unplugged network from PA and removed the 4 wire port from PA. Shook slightly, no rattle. checked comms port and it is plugged in correctly. Plugged indoor equipment in. Powered off outdoor equipment at the breaker. Reset circuit breaker. Red light is on at the PA.

But now Im back to SL unable to connect to controller. Im sure it will eventually connect.

I will try calling Pentair.

thanks for your help

When you call you can skip three days of bs and tell them Justin at on time pools in Sarasota has helped you troubleshoot the issue and it certainly is a head scratcher. They are going to have you do everything suggested so far. At this moment I would be swapping components to get this resolved. Not much else to do. Maybe try a different lan port on router.

thanks. I just got off the call with Pentair. He had me uncover the outdoor transceiver and power light is solid green. (which I have looked at in the past). Since the SL indoor transceiver is currently rapidly flashing they can not offer much help. "It is a comms issue". Pentair says it could be a transceiver or it could be an ET motherboard issue. Was told I need to have a pool professional come take a look to diagnose it.

I did move the indoor transceiver to another room, and plugged into my network thru satellite extender just to see if that would help. It didnt.

Another question, since my VS pump is wired to same comms port on the ET motherboard, and since it does behave per the ET settings wouldnt that indicate the ET motherboard comms is working correctly?

Well Im ready for another round of fun with my screenlogic system. Since the previous update here is where I am now. I gave in and ordered a new SL system. Received it last week. I tried install and had no luck. Here is a summary:

First I powered down the ET system.

I installed new PA and indoor transceiver. Not much to it just plugged network cable into PA and open port on router, connected the small wire harness provided in new kit between the PA and transceiver ensuring wire colors matched the printed wire color labels on the HW, and plugged power cord in.

Went to outdoor transceiver, removed old card, installed new one, ensuring the wire colors matched.

Powered up ET system.

Now, no rx or tx lights on either transceiver. Very strange that it does not try to communicate wirelessly. I would think at least one of the transceivers would be sending a signal even if the other transceiver isnt able to receive it. Spent an hour or 2 on phone with pentair and they could not resolve. They could see my system connecting but no explanation for lack of wireless activity. Of course I was then told to hire a pool professional.

I notice an rj45 connector on the new outdoor transceiver board. Can anyone tell me what this is for ?

Still curious about the rj45 connector on the outdoor transceiver ?

I think you got the 900MHZ Wireless Link that is also used on the IntelliCenter. On the IntelliCenter the outdoor module connects to the IntelliCenter PCB by RJ45 instead of RS-485.

I'm happy you got your systemup and running again. Do you think it was the PA ot the wireless system ? Just asking for future reference . I have the same system.

Hard to tell, I replaced wireless and PA, and ran new cable from outdoor antenna to SL panel comms port. Some day I might try to put the old antennas back to see if they work but since everything is working it may be a while before I get around to that.

Might be interesting to know. It is unlikely that both were bad. I am glad you are still using the wireless. In my early install I had a buried data line from the ET directly connected to the PA. Somehow a lightning strike nearby must have found the buried cable. It fried my PA ( The Brick) and every circuit board in my system. It was an expensive repair. I changed to the wireless communication. It has worked well for over a decade.
Best wishes.
