HL-Chem reading "--" for both ORP and PH

I know that they aren't very popular on TFP but I have had great success with my HL-Chem for both maintaining PH and controlling the SWG with ORP. I have had to make slight adjusts to my ORP target throughout the year but other than that it has been perfect.

This year when I opened the pool the readings were off as expected, but after a few days with the automation still disabled the readings for both PH and ORP just read "--". My Taylor test kit and the pool store tests show that the water is balanced. I have tried cleaning my probes and restarting the OmniPL but I am still getting "--" for both readings. The OmniPL isn't reporting any errors.

As far as I can tell the manuals don't say anything about this. I tried reaching out to Hayward but they have not responded to my emails.

Any suggestions?
 
My guess is the HL-CHEM is not communicating with the OmniPL. I would carefully check the cable connection between the two boxes.
 
That was a good suggestion. I checked the controller and the comm connection was seated properly. Just to be sure I shut everything down and reseated the connector but that did change anything.

The OmniPL does see the HL-CHEM and show its HUA.
The HL-CHEM activity light blinks while the OmniPL is booting and then is solid on after a few seconds.
 
It took 2 sets of replacements and a lot of back and forth with Hayward but everything is working now.

My best guess is that the people that closed the pool let the probes dry out before they capped them. Then the first set of replacements were just bad.

For anyone else with this problem or with problems with Haywards automation equipment call 1-800-HAYWARD. Don't bother with the phone or email support on their website. They will try to push you off to a local dealer but if you tell them that the local dealer isn't helping then Hayward will help. I actually got great support once I found the right number to call.
