Hello!

First time pool owner here. We purchased a Bestway PowerSteel 20x12x48 oval pool from Costco. We spent all weekend leveling out where the pool was going to go, compacting it with dirt, sand etc to ensure the pool was going to be level. before purchasing a pool we read horror stories of pools busting after not being level. when we finally got to the point of being confident in our leveling, we set up the pool to begin filling. At first everything was fine and was within 1" of level all around. when the pool was filling up, we noticed that both sides of the oval pool were bowing inwards. we read that for an oval pool, this was normal and to let it fill all the way up. after letting it fill some more, one side stopped bowing and looked normal, however, we still had one side bowing inward. on the side that was bowing, it was about 2 1/2" deeper than the high side was (where the bowing had stopped). My theory is that while the pool was level at the time of set up, when it filled up the pool sunk and is now off level.

As i type, the pool is draining and we are going to start over. however we have no idea what our next step needs to be. We have most of the legs on pavers, and on the low side we actually have the middle U shaped leg on (3) pavers, to try to offset the level issue.

if the pool is about 2" off level, i can almost stand it. however, my biggest problem is the fact that it is bowing on the side that is 2" deeper. is it bowing on this side because it is lower? what should we do to correct the bowing?

i have seen conflicting info on this issue and do not know what to do. some info said that when one side of the pool is bowing, it is because the U channels are higher than the pool liner/middle of the pool. is this true? if it is, my gut tells me we need to remove the pavers on the U Channel to get them even with the pool, but wouldn't this just make the unevenness/unlevel worse than what it already is?

any info or help is sincerely appreciated. like i said we are currently draining now because we want to do this right. i want to make sure that we do it right this next time.

pic below for reference, you can see the bowing on the right side, where it is deeper.

You should not have most of the legs on pavers. All legs must be on pavers.

And you cannot build up dirt and compact it to level. You must dig down and put the pavers and legs on undisturbed ground that will not sink.
