Can 6x6 tile be cut to 2x2 and look ok?

Hi all, it's been awhile...please tell me if my PB is full of it...very very long story short, after 2.5 years of nonsense from my PB, they finally have agreed to replaster my pool since EVERYONE (ok, except the plaster company owner, lol) they sent out here including an independent third party said the plaster job was Crud...well, since nothing can go right, my step tile was discontinued which on-top-of-nothing PB didn't realize until my pool was drained and current step tile was destroyed. The 6x6 version is still available. PB is saying, they cannot cut 2x2 tiles out of 6x6 b/c it wouldn't look good....is this true or are they just trying to find the easy way out? They want me to pick something else. I'm willing to compromise and space the tile out a lot more than before so they don't have to cut as much. The logical part of me says, if they say they are not capable, then I should believe them based on past experience. The other part of me say they are being lazy and trying to get away with the minimum amount of work they think will make me go away. I have looked everywhere and contacted anyone I could think of to see if there were any 2x2s available. Well, so much for my plan to not go on a rambling rant :ROFLMAO:. This is the current situation of my steps. steps.jpg

It is VERY hard to cut tile and have it all be nice. There will be chips and splinters if they are not top notch tile people. I would find a different tile in the size you want :( Best to "listen" to them on this one.

I also PLEASE tell me they are going to chip out ALL of the old plaster!!!

When cutting tile you will end up with jagged edges even if you are using new blades, especially if you are expecting the cut tiles to be smooth as uncut tiles.
The step tiles will be surrounded by plaster but understand that if the tile is chipped on the face from the cutting, their is a possibility it may be noticeable when submerged in water.

Chipping out the plaster is a battle I just didn't have the energy for. It took me this long to get them to even replaster.

My step marker tiles are 3x3 cutouts from the 6x6 waterline tile. I agree with the above that you will see some chips depending on a variety of factors I suppose. They look fine, but if you look closely you can see them. But honestly, you'd only see the marks with still water. Any movement from your pump or people, and it looks perfect. If there is a large difference in color between the tiles and the plaster, you will see the imperfections more.
