The CL goes up and down like a yo-yo.
CYA is 20 or less. App says 10 is the slam number. Husband keeps asking me if we should make the number higher to kill it off.
4-7 4/8: FC - added 4 gal of bleach (all we had and no chems. Had to order on Amazon) our chems said there was nothing in the pool twice so we knew that had to be wrong bc we added 4 128-oz bottles of 12.5% bleach. I could smell it but chems said no FC

Pool is being brushed. It’s clean and the water is clear.

Would raising the slam number help at all?

Consistency is key in the early part of the SLAM Process. The FC requires a bit more babysitting at first to keep it as close to 10 (or 12) as possible. I mentioned "12" because ideally you should ensure you have a solid CYA of at least 30 which would require an FC of 12. Anything less is not only questionable since our test kits don't pick up those low numbers very well, but the sun's UV rays will have more opportunity to oxidize the unprotected free chlorine. Be sure you have a CYA of 30 and try to keep the FC steady at about 10-12 during the SLAM for best effectiveness. Hope that helps.

Yes, I think so. However, my CYA is NOT 30. I can still see the dot so let me add some more CYA to it. Sigh….

What the heck is the deal?
Ignore the pH test while doing the SLAM. The pH test will look dark because the FC is at 10 or more. Once you complete the SLAM and let the FC fall down to normal levels, then you can test/adjust the pH.

ok. couple stupid questions here. I just reread about passing the overnight test. yesterday the pool was:
4/14 8:24 a.m. 12
pH 7.8 and TA 110
5:05 p 10
10:42 p 7.5

4/15 12.5 at 8:15 am.
1 :00 same
4:25 p 11.5
10:10 p 10

4/16 7:25 a.m. 12.5
4:00 pm 8
8:30 pm 9.5

So have we passed? also the directions say before slamming make sure the pH is 7.2 so that is why I was testing it bc our pH went up crazy. 4/14-15 thenumber was the same from evening to mroning - just a little paranoid

Evening FC test needs to be very soon after the sun goes down.
Morning FC test needs to be right before sun comes up.

The SWG needs to be set to zero or turned off.
There is to be no chlorine addition between the evening and morning test.

check and check
How is your FC rising between tests? Are you adding chlorine or using a SWCG?
chlorine . SWG is off

According to the logging you posted, the FC went up between the last night test and the first morning test.
For the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, you don't add between the last night test and the first morning test.

where did the extra Fc come from each morning?

According to your test data:
4/14 night Fc 7.5 --> 4/15 morning Fc 12.5 (how?)
4/15 night Fc 10 --> 4/16 morning Fc 12.5 (how?)

There wasn’t
There wasn't what?

Explain how the FC increased two consecutive nights between the last evening test and the first morning test.
If the SWG was off and no chlorine was added, the FC couldn't have increased overnight or you didn't correctly perform/complete the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.
