Looks and smells like a stagnant pond

There are literally FEET of leaves, hay, and worms in the bottom. Should I be focused on getting all of that out first? Am I just wasting chlorine with all of that organic matter in there? I’m working on getting it out between tests.
It's a double edged sword. The FC and gunk battle it out but you need the FC to start the process. The chlorine will lighten the swamp a little helping you see more crud. Get to SLAMing once the FC holds and priority 1-a is removing the crud.

Scoop blind where you need to and do your best to maintain a pattern. With enough tries, you'll get it all. I watched mine go from green to cloudy in front of me when the last scoop came out. It had lightened enough that I finally saw the last part I'd missed and BOOM. Like flipping a switch.

So test 5 & 6 yielded 9 and 9.5 fc and 0 cc. Am I safe to assume there is no ammonia at this point? And now I proceed to a SLAM? If I’m slamming, I know I poured in 17ppm CYA… should I just assume I started with 0 and go for another 13 to make 30?

are you putting in dry stabilizer or liquid cya?

Pour in 1 gallon of liquid stabilizer which should add 17 ppm of CYA. Make sure after you empty the jug you put some water in the bottle and shake it well and pour it into the pool. Do that until the water is coming out clear.

Then test your CYA the next day. The ammonia may have consumed the stabilizer you added.

Yes… oddly the pressure hasn’t been increasing but I’ve been doing a small backwash every so often just in case
If your pressure gauge is working, I’d recommend not employing short cycle backwashing. You’re just dumping treated water thus wasting $$. Allowing the filter to get dirtier will increase its efficiency to a point. If you’re concerned about your gauge let it run and check the relative pressure from the returns. If you feel a significant drop in pressure from the returns and the pressure gauge hasn’t registered an increase then replace the gauge.

Just got home from work to a pleasant surprise! I can make out the main drains at the bottom of the 8ft deep end!!! Woohoo! CYA is about 15 (?, the black dot disappears when filled to the tip top of the tube). I did a backwash and adding 1 gallon of liquid cya now.

FC was set to 10 at 5am and was at 6.5 when I got home at 6. pH is 7.2. Slam will commence tonight! I’ve gone from being super stressed out to really excited! Thank you all so much!IMG_8237.jpegIMG_8238.jpegIMG_8240.jpeg

My safety cover wasn’t ready when closing, so sometime in January they swapped the tarp cover with the safety and all the gunk on top of the tarp cover went in (I wasn’t home).

Sorry to hear you are going through so much trouble, but you are in good hands with the guys already helping you.

The tarp situation is another example of how problems in workplaces are typically getting solved by applying SEP technology:

Going good over here! I forgot how much I enjoy taking care of a pool

Can someone tell me how to vacuum using the pump and filter? I have two skimmers now, and the drains at the bottom. Do I need to shut them off or something? Or does one skimmer just need to be closed off? (Only one skimmer previously).
