What would you guys do? My pool is 2 1/2 years old. Our pool builder said not to do anything special when the temps dropped into the 30s because the pool pump runs at night. However, the intellicenter had freeze protection on so our slide turned on without our knowledge and dumped a ton of water on our auto cover. I feel like we should receive a push notification to approve before it turns on. The water pump on the pool malfunctioned and stopped working, and so a ton of water was on our cover, and the water did dip below the skimmer. The far end of our auto cover is slightly bowed. We have had this happen before but the pump did not malfunction so it wasn’t as big of a deal and we caught it right away. I feel so frustrated. We usually have the slide valve turned off at all times because of the two other times this occurred. I’m sure the pool builder will say it’s our fault although we paid them to open the pool and they are the ones that turned the valve on. I don’t think intellicenter should automatically be able to turn on the slide like this. I am so frustrated and worried that our auto cover and pump has been ruined. any suggestions on getting the end fixed or how to tell if the pump is OK? Or even better why Pentair has the slide automatically turn on in customers with an auto cover. Our slide has a constant little drip, and I wasn’t worried about the lines freezing.

In Champaign, IL I would close the pool and winterize it.

The IntelliCenter is not smart enough to know the complexities that were built into your pool. There are many conditions that Pentair did not anticipate and design it to handle.

Do you have the Pool Cover Card installed in your IntelliCenter?

The water pump on the pool malfunctioned and stopped working, and so a ton of water was on our cover, and the water did dip below the skimmer. The far end of our auto cover is slightly bowed. If you turn off the slide valve during the winter, water will freeze at the valve and crack it. We have seen many slide feed pipes damaged that way. Closing the slide valve is not adequate winterization.

Our slide has a constant little drip, and I wasn’t worried about the lines freezing.

You need to have a better plan for the winter. A drip will not protect the slide line.

Take out your frustration on your Pool Builder who gave you bad advice and set you up for these problems.

All you can do now is keep an eye on your pump for leaks or loud noises and see how it goes.

+1 Having lived in that area for years the best and only answer IMO is to fully winterize. Why the PB gave you any other advice is baffling to me. Allen has given you the best advice possible at this point.

The pool heater was on and the water was 45°, so there was no need for the slide to turn on. The freeze protection turned on because of the ambient air conditions not because of the water temp.

The pool was just opened yesterday. Water temp was 45°.
