Hey guys, we spend 4 months during the summer at our summer home in Michigan. I maintain our pool here in central Florida and have a pool maintenance service maintain the pool while we are away for the summer. Their prices have gone way up and they want $1000 to maintain the pool this summer. So I'm thinking of monitoring it myself via cameras and the Pentair IntelliConnect Pool Control & Monitoring System.
Our yard service guy will add Stabilizer, Chlorine and Salt but won't test the water or sweep the pool. He'll add the chemicals when I tell him to. We have a auto pool sweep. Here in central Florida it seems the most important part of keeping the pool clean is to make sure salt and stabilizer are roughly correct. I haven't gotten the Pentair Monitoring system yet but I believe it will tell me salt concentration. I know by experience that I will need to add stabilizer once a month and maybe salt depending on how much rain we get.

Our single speed 1.65 HP pump should probably be replaced. I'm looking at a variable speed pump and will replace our current one before this summer. Looking for suggestions on a pump. I have the easytouch system.

So looking for advice on leaving the pool for 4 months, like anything else I should be thinking of, and advice on a pump.

Tim, I don't know how much experience you have had yet with your IC20 reporting salt level. But you should never add salt based only on the SWG salinity reading. The Intellichlor temperature sensor in the flow switch assembly is a weak spot in the system and an incorrect temperature reading causes incorrect salt readings. You should always confirm a low or high salt cell indication using a salt test kit - Salt

The IntelliConnect will not tell you chlorine or stabilizer levels in the pool.

IntelliConnect with the latest firmware will control Pentair Intelliflo VS, Superflo VST, and Whisperflo VST pumps. Read Pentair Automation Systems - Further Reading

Also, automation systems tell you what it thinks is operating and if the pump or SWG is actually running.

Thanks ajw, I'm aware the SWG does not always report accurately the salt content of the pool water. However if I can get a ball park figure it will help to know if I need to add salt. Same with the stabilizer. I have no way of measuring but I know from experience stabilizer will need to be added monthly. If my estimations fail and I return in October to a green pool, I know what to do and it will not cost me the $1000 the pool service will charge.

Can you recommend a VS pump that works with my easytouch system?

Look at the Water Guru. It is not as accurate as a test kit but it is better then guessing...

Any Intelliflo VS, Superflo VST, or Whisperflo VST will work with your EAsyTouch system.

What pump model are you replacing?

I purchased my EasyTouch in 2021.
And thanks for the info on the water guru, that looks like just what I need.
Concerning the pool pump, and looking at Polytech's website there are it looks like 6 different Pentair pumps and within each of these 6 there are several with varying features. Can you suggest a pump that will go with my EasyTouch system? And why does Pentair offer so many pumps that seem to do the same thing. I know I'm missing something.

Just checking you have VS pump support.

Different pumps have various bells and whistles and more sophisticated controls or sizes. Most you don;t care about since your EasyTouch will control the pump.

For example, the Superflo line of pumps was made to the dimensions of the Hayward Super pump to be an drop in replacement with no plumbing changes.

The gold standard pump now is the Intelliflo3. I recommend you get it with the touchscreen so you are not dependent on your phone and app to control the pump in SERVICE mode.

Otherwise look at the Whisperflo VST 2.6HP pump.
