DIY Liner replacement

I am preparing to install a new vinyl liner in the next month or 2. I’ve watched many videos but wondering if there are any tips, tricks or pitfalls I should be aware of.
I’ve been told to go ahead and replace all gaskets during the project. Do all skimmers, returns and lights all need 2 gaskets?

Yes, You ideally want one on either side of the liner.
Depending upon what brand fixtures you have there may be variations of gaskets.
Some come with 1 cork & 1 rubber/ foam type some have all rubber/foam or all cork.
Usually if its cork & rubber/foam the cork one goes between the liner & wall.
You can go on inyopools & look up the gaskets for each thing by brand (skimmer, return, light) & it will usually tell you if 2 are required as well.

Thanks for the input. That video you sent is one I’ve watched a couple times now as it’s one of the better ones I’ve found!

What is the recommended silicone sealant to use for the gaskets?
 
Do I need to wait to drain the pool until right before installing the new liner? The weather won’t be warm enough until next month but wondering if I could go ahead and drain now and have that done. Or is it not good to sit empty that long?

I am trying to get my pumped primed to start the pool draining. I drained down below the returns for the winter. I still have the return caps on, the return lines closed and the skimmer line closed. I opened the main drain line and turned the valve to waste. I have put a hose in the pump basket to fill the line and it fills up the basket. As soon as I put the lid on and turn on the pump the water goes down to about 2 inches in the basket and it won’t pump water. There is some water dripping from the waste line but I can’t get the pump to prime. Am I missing something?
All the connections are tight and plugs are in???

You need a submersible pump to drain a pool. It can't be done with the filter system.
