Hi everyone,

Like others, our Pentair filter has a fair amount of rust coming off the inner steel ring. I started to notice it a year or so ago and it does seem to have gotten worse. I've checked out a number of posts and it seems this is somewhat common occurrence with Pentair filters. Our installation date was mid-2019 and I'm sure I'm outside the warranty window. Just looking for any updated advice if this is something to just live with or consider some sort of replacement part?

Many thanks,
Tony

Use Barkeepers Friend liquid cleanser to clean and remove all the rust staining. Rinse well.

It’s caused by the tack welds used in the joining and fabrication of the ring. The stainless steel loses its passivation layer in those areas because the ring is not properly chemically cleaned after welding and so the ring rusts. Not much you can do about it. Just keep it clean.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the advice and feedback. I will check out Barkeepers. Do you think vitamin C crushed up might work? I had pretty good success with vitamin C crushed up in a thick slurry for a rust stain on plaster (another great tip from this forum).
