Pentair Mastertemp 400 air intake

My mastertemp 400 would shut off after about 28 seconds with an E05 error code. I replaced The Stack Flue sensor, tested it. All good until I tried it the next day with the side panel back on. Same problem.

I vacuumed the intake, but occasionally get the same problem with the panel on. When I leave the panel open, the heater works every time.

IMG_8541.jpegIMG_8542.jpeg I’ve seen the air intake panels or pvc pipe. I think this would solve my problem, but it looks like such a simple add on. I was wondering if anyone has DYI’d this? If I’m not mistaken, just PVC, cut a hole in the panel to match, a little screen over the PVC intake, correct?

Just seems way overpriced for what I’ve seen online.

Any thoughts on this?

Why not just cut a hole in the panel, put a screen over it and give it a try before trying to add more pipe. The kit is 3" PVC pipe and an adapter to go over the air venturi for the blower. Possibly a 3" coupler would work, installed as the manual says. It would need to be cut as the adapter is to clear the air orifices.
Is the heater in a room? Be sure there is enough air getting into the room for combustion air. You need 400 sq. in. at least 12" off the floor and another 400 sq. in. for venting about 12" from the ceiling.
