3 yr old variable speed vgreen motor recently started sounding louder with a noticeable growl towards the end of a cold spell. Still sounds different now that it’s warmed up but seems to be functioning normally otherwise. Noticeable at all RPMs. Only factor I can think of is it had to push against higher psi the last few days of extended cold weather due to analog freeze defender failing to kick the pump on one night which must have caused some ice buildup in the filter. Doesn’t sound like bearings. It’s always run smooth without issues until now. I haven’t pulled it apart to see if something is wrong with the wet side components. Please give the video a watch and let me know what you think.

Sounds like bearings. Would like to see a side view of the pump, right where the motor bolts to the sealplate. The white residue at the bottom of the mounting flange says "seal leak" and one that has been there for a while. Took out the front bearing.

Sounds right but man that is disappointing as I made sure to follow Inyo’s instructions exactly when installing the vgreen with a new shaft seal in 2020. Approximately 1.5 years ago, I noticed some water leaking after the seal plate down onto the motor stand. You might be able to see the residue in the second picture. I then replaced the seal again taking even more effort to install it without touching the ceramic portion.

I can see the residue from the O ring, but its what's on the mounting flange of the motor that indicates seal leak, unfortunately.
Be sure the cup in the sealplate is clean before installing the ceramic. I always put a very small amount of silicone sealant on the rubber of that portion. Also, if there is an impeller screw (left-hand thread), be sure it is there and relatively tight. I also put a small amount of silicone on the impeller, right at the hole for the screw.

Thanks for your help. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I change the shaft seal (didn't use sealant) but since the bearings need to be replaced, I’ll let the pros do it this time.
