I am still relatively new here and new to pool ownership, so forgive me if this is beyond dumb. So recently in N. Texas we had several days at well below freezing. I happened to wake up in the middle of the night and heard my pool pump making an awful sound. It turns out my plumbing had a moderate leak at the rear collar of the salt cell and ice was everywhere! The water level had lowered enough to where the pump was pulling in air. So, I was freaked out that eventually the water level would drain below the skimmer (it was nearly there), and I needed to do something quick in order to keep the water flowing. I was able to give the collar a gentle turn with a pair of channel locks, and that stopped the leak. The other problem was the outside spigot was frozen solid! So, how the heck am I going to get water into this pool to get the level up??? I did the only thing I could think of, I hooked up a hose to my water heater in the garage and let er rip. So, that did the trick, but now the problem is I have sediment in my pool. I was able to vacuum some out with my spa vac, but today as I was cleaning I could still see quite a bit in there. I pushed the sandy stuff towards the drain and I am hoping the cartridge filters catch it and I can change them soon. So, was this a really stupid thing to do? Should I keep pushing the stuff towards the drains and clean daily for a week and see how it goes? Or, should I just wait until it is decent enough weather and drain the pool and then refill?
