Hello all! First, This forum has been such a huge help with our pool Reno, Thank you!

Second we’re renovating a pool in Charleston, SC. We’ve decided on the bottom color and waterline tile but we’re hesitant to finalize the coping… currently it’s an ugly brick (photo below). We would like an affordable option that isn’t travertine, looking for something like bluestone, limestone or even stamped concrete/ man made stone. The pool company seems to only want to do travertine. From the beginning we told the contractor we wanted a quote for bluestone. He sent the initial quote for travertine. After several requests I finally got a quote for bluestone as well as a quote for “removal and install of new coping owner supplied stone.”

His quote for bluestone makes it over $37.00 per linear foot and I’m getting the vibe that he just DOSENT want to do it.

I’ll attach the CAD drawings below but we’re looking at 108 Linear Feet Approx. According to him.

My question is what is your coping?
Do you have recommendations for coping? Are these prices actually very high/ is the contractor trying to take us to the cleaners?

Here are the Quotes:

Bluestone
- Remove existing brick coping
- Prep Beam
- Install BlueStone, eased edge finish $9,465

Owner supplied stone
- Remove existing brick coping
- Prep Beam
-Install
$5,410

Travertine
- Remove existing brick coping
- Travertine stone, Bullnose or Eased Edge (choice) (Upgrade to Silver)
$8,550

He told you he did not want to install it when the first quote he sent you was for the one he wanted to install. I would NOT force someone to install something they did not want to as they many NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT. There has to be a reason they don't want to do it and my gut says you will not be happy with the end results if you move forward with HIS subs installing it.

What I would do is ask if he knows anyone in the area that DOES know how to install what you want and see if he will use them.
