Would removing the robot from the pool after cleaning prolong its life? I assumed chlorine degrades internal plastic parts.

I'm in the market for a robot cleaner and plan to leave my Polaris 280 daily schedule, then use the robot to clean once/week to get a good scraping (this may be shortsighted, per my initial question).

BTW, tracking down a Dolphin S200 to buy isn't straightforward. I gravitate to Amazon to avoid high-pressure sales of my local Leslie/Poolwerx stores, but it's not available at Amazon.

I have had my Dolphin for 7+ years and leave it in the pool most of the time and rarely take it out. My theory is that while the plastic does degrade, mostly bleaching the plastic, keeping it in the water decreases the temperature range the cleaner experiences. There are rubber seals in the cleaner that could dry out if left out of the water for long periods of time or experiencing extremes in temperatures could also degrade the seals faster.

Also, if you read through many of the forum posts of those units that failed, many of those are owners that pulled the cleaner out at the end of the cycle so that clearly does not guarantee longevity.

I leave mine in year round unless we are in the pool. I pull it out only to empty the basket and then plop it back in. It is a bit faded, but I don’t really care what color it is. My cord is shedding blue stuff but I think that just happens over time regardless. Up to you what you prefer to do.

There are several s200 type versions that have the same attributes.
Same guts - different clothes. So hunt for those attributes

I have S200 "sytle' robots in two rent house pools.. They seem to be working just fine.. But... When they die, they will be replaced by EVOs.

Initially, the EVO did not have a timer, or scheduler, and this would make them useless for the rentals... But.. They have recently updated their app to include weekly scheduler. :goodjob:

I have the dx4 noted above. It works well for my needs. I run it 1-2 times a week. It’s efficient and climbs the walls well enough. I’d recommend it.

So far I am very happy with my EVO 814iQ... I want to be clear.. I am a very outspoken guy about my love for pool robots..

But.. my requirements might not be the same as everyone else.. None of my three pool have huge trees right next to the pool. I do not get things like acorns, or other massive debris in my pools. I get what the neighbors trees send my way.

My skimmers catch 90% of the stuff that falls into my pools, so the robots only have to clean up what sinks to the bottom.

Hopefully we can get a good review on a durable robot.
It seems that QC has dropped among the major players and 3 years is about what to expect from one, with a repair ($$$) or two along the way. Dolphin (Maytronics) used to be the go-to brand, but they aren't lasting so well anymore.
Numerous posts from TFP experts and DIY users confirm this. We are looking for a strong running robot to recommend.

Keep in mind that for every one person that complains, there are 10 others that don't have the problem...

For the most part that covers reviews of all products..

I used to run several factory repair centers for non-pool related manufactures. If you only looked at my incoming repairs, it would appear the world was ending.. But most overall failure rates were less than 1%.. A lot has to do with how many you make, not just the ones that fail.

That said, the reason that my last robot was the EVO, was because of the failure feedback I got from being here on TFP...

After my Dolphin fails, I am considering this one although it currently seems to have a few issues. On the plus side, cordless and brushless motors are key items and if they can fix some of the reliability issues, it might end up being a decent choice especially since some of the bigger names don't seem to be all that much better.

Point well taken.
The thing is that pool robots used to be pretty strong running and reliable, though some brands have always had problems.
I have several pools with older robots 4+ years, still in good working order.
I think the issue comes from the frenzied pressure on manufacturers to release new models on an almost continuous basis.
The newer robots aren't holding up so well.

Jimrahbe provides an excellent review of the EVO 614i HERE, but my only concern is lack of available parts for new robots. Since most robot owners are prone to have one (or many) issues along the way, wouldn't it make sense to buy a popular/established brand so that parts are available and YouTube repair videos easy to find?
