Howdy all, I went out to test my FC tonight and heard what sounded like a waterfall in my skimmer basket. I can’t post video but it was like the basket wasn’t full and water was forcefully pouring over the weir door. It wasn’t until I stopped the pump for a minute and removed the skimmer sock, which was only a day old and in seemingly good shape, that it seemed to fill up and sound “normal.” I bet I could put a fresh sock on though and it would still be “normal” now. I did have a rock in there to keep the sock from floating when I turn off the pump, would that have caused an issue? I just started doing that last night.

Also, I have noticed that the weir door tends to lay flat when the pump is on high, even now that the skimmer seems to be working normally and water isn’t rushing in so forcefully. My water level had dropped to just below halfway up the skimmer, could that have been why? I am adding water now just in case.

I added a couple of before and after screenshots of the skimmer from the video I took, hopefully you can see the difference.

Yes...absolutely! Also check that the weir door moves freely. If it gets stuck in the down position, this can also cause the issue.

Not likely.

50% is the correct level. If you vary pump speed, you will get more skimming at higher speeds...this is to be expected. Again, you run pump to heat, filter, add chemicals/SWCG or skim. If you want/need more skimming, up the pump for a period of time. 50% is the universal design of skimmer. Vary pump speed for results (need more skimming, up speed and duration).

Looks to be an aftermarket spring-loaded replacement weir. The Styrofoam that allows it to float will sometimes get waterlogged. Easiest thing is to cut a piece of a pool noodle and put it in place of the foam.
