I have had both mesh and solid covers. Neither provides a clean pool opening. Worms and leaves found a way around the edge of the cover. The mesh cover did allow fine dirt and pollen to get through. It wasn't hard to clean up after opening. The mesh cover was easier to install and remove from the pool. As for algae, that's a function of how you close and open and not the cover itself. I never opened to a green pool in 16 years.
Unfortunately, no. Pool people just sent me a text asking standard mesh $$$ or pro mesh $$$$? And asked what color I wanted. If I knew how to AB measure, I would have ordered myself but such as it is. From what I've read I believe the standard mesh is lighter weight and like you said the pro will probably open to a cleaner pool.
Most likely the difference is a heavier weave and stronger springs on the pro version. In Minnesota I assume you get quite a bit of snow. A heavy snow pack can weigh quite a bit and there is really no way to remove it from the cover...it's there until it melts. Get an estimate for both but consider the pro in your area.
