Ozone UV vs Salt

I can’t believe the hard sell on the ozone UV vs Salt. I am told the water is so hard in AZ and the salt will make the tile covered in calcium. It will eat up my travertine deck. They said if I do salt there is no warranty on the travertine, although, I am not really sure what there is to go wrong with travertine?

I just can’t figure why they push it so hard?

I had a salt cell in my last pool, had to replace the cell about every 2 years at about $800 a pop.

Salespeople gonna salespeople. They have one goal and it's not taking care of you.

It also happens that most builders and pool owners don't know bupkiss about chemistry and mismanage the SWGs. When there's issues, it's the SWGs fault, not the pool service / builder / homeowner.

So the get a really bad rap that they don't deserve.

Did you like your previous setup ? Anyone here who properly manages theirs wouldn't give it up for anything.

They push hard because of incentives. I'd push UV if I got to win this trip to Hawaii:

Last I checked the incentive program for salt was 50% off a Denny's grand slam breakfast.

High ch levels can & do cause scaling - that holds true whether you have a swcg or not. If possible top up the pool with softened water.
With careful management of your ch, ph & csi you should not encounter those issues nor should you have to replace your cell every two years so long as it is properly sized for your pool.
Btw- I think you have all the uv you can stand for free in your locale 😉 I certainly wouldn’t pay for more (which consumes fc) & still have to pay for & dose with chlorine.
Get a swcg that’s rated for at least 2x’s your pool’s volume or larger & follow
Here’s a bunch more info too:
Also its my understanding that the travertine needs to be sealed. I would imagine that’s a good idea whether you use a swcg or not.
Many pools in arid locations with high evaporation rates end up with salt levels high enough to operate a swcg after only a few years anyway.

The only way to not have salt in a pool is to never use chlorine. It will always add a little with each dose.
