Depends. Do you have an issue with rising CH in your pool water due to evaporation? In your climate, I would suspect you get rain and thus the pool is likely to be kept full from the rain.
In my climate, I use softened water for make up water due to evaporation. But we get no rain. So all the water that gets into my pool is from the tap.

TY - first season, waiting on real rains to come. Given high heat, been topping off with softened water as is, but wanted to get a second opinion. So far I think i have added about 5 inches of water in two months, seems consistent (or a bit below) with evaporation estimators. Should be hopefully done soon, if we get rains that are more than 0.05 inches every few days!
Softened water won’t hurt your pool at all. It will either help keep your CH down if you have high CH water normally or keep your CH down and need to raise it if you don’t. Either way you will need to test calcium occasionally.
For me i have high CH fill water so i tied to the softener. I have lots of rain but these last 4 weeks with no rain the autofill has been keeping the pool filled with softened water.
One question - can your softener handle the flow of tied to pool? You may have to recharge more often if the valve is time based vs gallons based.

I am not sure it can handle. Last time I ran it, it was flashing a bit but reset worked. I am hoping not to make a habit of it since the town water is not cheap!
Your pool will evaporate 1/4” or more daily. Replacement water has to come from somewhere. If it’s softened or not it should cost the same from the city lines?
