Critique my plans - help with depth of steps and sun shelf?

Hello,

We are designing a pool for our backyard. I attached our latest draft. It will have two, 25-yard lap lanes, a hot tub, and a sun shelf area for the kids.

I would love any comments. In particular, I would love feedback on the depth of our sun shelf area. The sketch shows the depths of the steps and sun shelf. The numbers refer to the water depth and do not include the added height of the tile surround and coping, which I think will add around 4".

The hot tub rim will be flush with the pool deck. The idea will be that adults can sit on the rim by the sun shelf. This rim will be 14" high (10" water depth of sun shelf + 4" coping).

Typically if the water depth is 10” then there will be an added 3” of exposed tile above the water plus the thickness of the coping.

10” of water on the Sun shelf will accommodate the depth for Ledge Lounges.

What will the depth of the spa be? Typically there are only two steps in a spa and your drawing shows three.

I would suggest a light and return line on the sun shelf also.
 
General comment regarding spa vertical placement.
When we built in 2005 we were pretty physically fit and the builder wanted $1000/ft in spa height above deck. Being at the top of our budget already we went for spa and deck being flush since squatting down and stepping on the spa seating ledge was no big deal.........until we got older. Whatever you do make sure geezers/disabled/pregnant/etc. folks are able to safely manage getting in and out. I was able to place a handrail next to the sunshelf/entry steps to the pool but the spa's going to take some more thinking due to the layout.
