Long time pool owner, new to salt intro

I’ve always run it fairly close to 50/50 day/night just to keep it turned over more regularly. Not opposed to running it 16 hrs 8pm to noon if there’s no issue with having it sit stagnant for 8hrs straight during the hottest part of the day. Never thought much about the rates. I need to look into that

Great info guys. Thx

Last question for now- if not 50/50 MA / water to clean the cell, what do you all use? white vinegar n water has been mentioned.

I have a timer that turns it on for about 8 hours during the day and shuts it down after that. But the pump keeps running.
B,

What is the point of running the pump if you are not making chlorine???

If you only make chlorine 8 hours a day, when the SWCG shuts off the chlorine in the pool has to last for 16 hours, until the SWCG comes back on.

Not saying you need to change anything, but it just makes no sense to me. Then again I'm often a little dense...

Thanks,

Jim R.

I get to skim the water more in that case. The RJ-60 is only running at 15% sometimes and I still have plenty of chlorine so I can’t turn it down much more. I’m essentially using my timer to throttle the chlorine generation. But I could try keeping it on at say 5% and see what happens. I need to find a plaster contractor first.😉

Everything I’ve read/watched and was told says clean every 90 days. I’ll post a picture of mine next month at the end of the first 90 days and see what the consensus is. If it doesn’t need it, I won’t clean it. definately don’t want shorten it’s life span.

B. - 8hrs a day at 15%? This is where I‘m still somewhat confused. I thought I’d be doing good making enough chlorine running my pump 16 hrs a day at 40%. Many variables, I know, but at this point it seems like I’ll need to run it closer to 80%. Will be posting test #‘s in the coming days.

Ordered the TF 2006 test kit last night and purchasing some liquid chlorine today. Will stay away from dry acid and shock granules goong forward. for years I had the old system figured out with just testing ph and FC and test sticks, but I’m trying to really get the pool dialed in. Kids are grown and I have the time and inclination to now do this.

To clarify - when I SLAM and need to ”turn off” the cell, are you talking about just unplugging the power or pulling the unit and putting the dummy tube in? I assume, just unplug the power.

Found liquid chlorine / 10-12% at Leslie’s Pools. Is this what I want? Never used liquid before and didn’t know if 10-12% is the good stuff. $34 for 4 gallons.

$34 is expensive but not as expensive as Home Depot’s prices. Walmart might be cheaper per FC, but that Leslie’s stuff is fine as well.

The 15% setting I was referring to is more likely at the end of the season. Adjusting the RJ-60 is easier than adjusting my timer. So after testing, I can just push a button to dial up or down the %. You’re going to need to adjust the SWCG power over time to keep the FC on range. So you’ll turn it way down when there’s not much sun and then turn it up when it’s middle of summer heat.
