Just upgraded burnt out VSP Pentair to Inteliflow 3HP, set 24 hr/day, “low” I believe, by Tech. Electrician’s wife, the pool savvy one who purchased pump for me didn’t come with him, couldn’t ask her questions!
My Cartrdge filter is operating at much lower pressure: 5 vs 15 on old one. Skimmers don’t have much in them either but water looks clear. Is this normal?

Welcome to TFP.

Pressure is proportional to RPM and flow. Lower flow will give lower PSI. That is normal.

Lower RPM will give less skimmer action. You need to find the RPM that gives acceptable skimmer function.

If you had automation you can vary the RPM during the day and run the pump speed higher for a few hours to skim the pool. Without automation you have to accept less energy efficiency and run the pump at the highest speed that everything on your pool functions - skimmers, heater, SWG.

CV,

I suggest that you open your skimmers to 100% and close your main drain so that it is only open at 5%.

Also... Skimming with a VS pump does not look the same as with a single speed pump, but it still works fine. You just need a little patience..

My IntelliFlo runs at 1200 RPM and my skimmers work great. I don't have a heater. With a heater you might have to run at 1500 or so.

My filter pressure is about 1 lb. on a 30 lb. gauge. If your pressure is 5 PSI, then I suspect you are not running all that "low". What is your actual RPM?

Thanks,

Jim R.
