I have a question on my pool plumbing. Should the heat pump have a by-pass for the water? My concern is that if the heat pump fails [leaks] that I will be unable to run the pump and filter. Is this something I should be concerned with and have it done? Here is a pic of my current set-up.
Most heaters do not have a bypass. That said, they are useful and recommended if you are in the plumbing phase. Certainly you could add one now if you're up for the task.
Bigger reason is to reduce the pressure due to the flow going through the heater. But you need an automation system to allow the heater use without manual intervention.
