What are these white flakes?

Started seeing this a couple of weeks ago. Thin white flakes, not salt, coming from the pump feeds into the pool (salt water). Chemistry doesn't change appreciably other than pH which I control with quite a bit of acid. Nothing I know of has changed recently.

What test kit are you using?
Your last full test results were2 months ago.
Post a full set of current test results from one of the recommended test kits.
Also test the salt level with a K-1766 or equivalent.

Chances are it's calcium flakes from your SWG.
Keeping your CSI between 0.00 and -0.30 (negative 0.30) will minimize this.

Gather some of those flakes up, place on the grou d away from other stuff and put a few drops of muriatic acid on them. If they fizz/bubble it's calcium.

Tested today. TA at 140, pH 8.2. I always have to add a considerable amount of acid. Pool Math has always suggested dropping pH to 7.0-7.2 and letting it rise again to lower TA. Never done that before (TA has never been this high) but today I'm adding sufficient acid to try it.

PM calculated my CSI at 0.92.

Note: I live in the CA Desert and this year we've been having one big dust storm after another. It calls for constant cleaning to get the muck off the bottom of the pool. Don't know if that could be a big factor.

CSI staying positive for very long can lead to scaling of SWCG quicker than you might expect. As you beat the TA down with acid, you’ll get to where it’s fairly easy to stay negative CSI, which is absolutely necessary to keep SWCG running well.

What is TA of your fill water? Do you use softened water for water makeup due to evaporation?

Check the CH of your fill water also. You can manage your CSI with your current 640ppm CH by lowering your pH and TA but anticipate if or when you will need to also lower your CH to manage a negative CSI.
Check how water temp affects CSI.
