Just picked up a new raypak cupro nickel heater. My TA is finally approaching the double digits. Will borates cause any issues with the new heater?

I have been using borates in my pool for years now. I maintain at around 80ppm and I have not experienced that or any other disadvantages (except for the initial cost of course
).
For all the reasons that you listed, I have been really pleased with the results.

borates help with bugs too right? We have a plethora of biting bugs around here and would love to get them to, literally, buzz off
