The Big Squeeze - Central Florida Pool Build

That's looking fantastic! I think your offset baja deck/tanning ledge is a neat idea. Can't wait to see what it looks like full!

That looks great! I can't wait to see it with water in it!!
Neither can we! It was high 80s this weekend and we were really wishing it was ready after a hot day playing soccer.

Thank you, I'm very happy with the shape and glad we sacrificed overall pool size for the placement. When you walk in the front door it instantly catches your eye. Plus I think it has a little more character than just having the shelf inside the pool area.

We have a deck! We're loving the look so far. I was getting worried that the pavers might clash with the stacked stone more than it does but I think it works so far. Next question I have, to seal or not to seal?

Plumbing/equipment pad is up next, hopefully within the next couple weeks. The end is in sight (and so is the warm weather)!

I'm in the process of getting landscape/irrigation/sod quotes now. Also started looking into furniture and umbrellas. The prices are a little demoralizing for higher quality stuff with decent warranties.

More to come...
Pavers look great. I would recommend sealing the pavers with some sharkskin. We have young kids, so sealing the pavers was a no brainer to avoid the anxiety of them getting stained. We like a more matte look rather then it being high gloss.

Yeah, we sealed our previous pavers and I wasnt super impressed for the money we spent. I'm on the fence about sealing these. I've had some people recommend it to limit the fading and others say its not worth it. Going price around here is $1 / sqft or more.

Sharkskin sounds like it has an additive to make it grippy, is it slippery at all? When we sealed with wet look before it made the pavers slick for quite a while.

After I watched them seal our pavers initial, I plan to do the future coating myself. It doesnt seem to difficult.

I have a semi wet look that took a few coats with a diluted flood coat, it was slipper at first but is a lot less now. I noticed after the application that the little bit of sand that ended up on top of the pavers provided a bit if slip resistance. I think the sharkskin would be better as a grip agent if you end up with a very wet look.

I have been told to make sure that you wait for the pavers to cure out for a few months before sealing.

Anyone have recommendations for mosquitos breeding in the stagnant water while we complete construction? Any recommendations that are safe for the concrete shell?

I tried draining myself but its difficult pulling a siphon with the pool being the lowest spot in the yard.

Hopefully they start cleanup this week but I've already noticed way more mature mosquitos and we've probably got a few more weeks before final finish

We finally got water in the pool on Tuesday! Really happy with the DB Blue so far and how everything fits together. Hopefully we're able to get in next week!

Now time to finish up all the little items on the punch list. Meanwhile, I'll be spending a decent amount of time in the pool cleaner forum trying to figure out the best option for us. I'm really attracted to the cordless robots given our pool size but I'm surprised at how few are currently offered. Would be nice if there were more details available for the new Dolphin Liberty 400 model.

John,

Battery powered robots are all relatively new.. It will take a while before we see what works well, and what does not. Just like electric cars, the biggest issue will be the cost. I also notice that the warranty for the Liberty line is thee years, but the battery warranty, is only two years. In my mind that is a red flag.

I like the idea of no cord, but I don't think it is 'soup' yet.

That said, I'll most likely buy a Dolphin battery powered unit, assuming the cost is not outrageous.

Thanks,

Jim R.

is that an electric outlet at the white spot base of the curved seating at the fire pit area? That's an ideal place to plug a robot in from if it is so it not across the deck in the large area. If its not....that would have been a great place for an GFCI outlet.

Give this place a call on the phone: Home - Marina Pool Spa & Patio They are our go to for all things pool robots.

I LOVE the water color! I can't wait to see it up close!

Yes, I plan to give them a call. I figure I've got a few weeks to figure it out while the plaster cures. We'll see how long this honeymoon phase is, I havent tired of brushing yet :)

Yes, definitely expensive! I do see the Water Tech 550 that Marina sells has a three year warranty on battery and motor but the price is pretty steep at $1500. Surprisingly there's not much feedback on that model online.

No outlets out by the fire pit but we have a bunch of GFCI on the summer kitchen and a couple on the house. That white spot is where some stone got knocked off during the dig phase. Hopefully it gets patched up good as new, the finish guy is supposed to take care of that and a few other things.
