Well look at you! You have done it again! I am going to jump to sharing a set of links I give at this point in your build:

Have you started bonding with it yet? aka watering it to help slow down the curing.

It is time for your set of links! The first set is all about what to do and ask about to get a great plaster job. The second set is all about how to care for your pool after you get the plaster.

Plaster links:

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.

Congratulations! I look forward to seeing the wall on the house side of the pool. Our pool is much farther away from the house than yours but we also have a wall on that side of the pool. It really creates a nice vibe down in the pool area. There are lots of pics in my signature link if you want to take a look.

So, I am still trying to pick a contractor to install my new pool deck. It will be an addition to the existing patio pavers and walls. I have three bids and of course the guy I like the most was $14,000 more than the next closest one. All three are working off of the same diagram, however their sq. footage estimates varied for both the deck and the walls.

I shared the other proposal with him and he was able to point out what he felt were major differences in the bids. Even after adding those things back in (I don't agree on all of them), he was still a lot higher. He agree to take off another few thousand but said he couldn't get any closer than an extra $5000.

There are two major differences between the bids. The more expensive guy fills all utility trenches with stone dust and gravel to ensure the pavers above never settle. He also has a 5 year warranty on it.

The other bidders backfill the trenches with dirt and tamp it in stages. They claim that this works just fine and they offer a 1-year warranty.

So, please share your stories, horror and otherwise, in reference to settling pavers; specifically, where your utility trenches were.

Thank you

There's your answer. :) Does yours have to settle if they compact the dirt instead of using gravel ? No. It may be totally fine. But enough of them settle that they will only fix it for 1 year.

Well, got most of the pool area complete the week after Memorial Day. Still much to do in terms of landscaping, furniture, etc.; but here is the general gist of it. I am very happy with the way the way the wall and pavers turned out. The fire pit area and deck/screened porch were already here when I bought the house, and I am very happy with how they tied the new hardscape into the existing one.
