Last summer we put in a grecian in ground pool (husband and I did it ourselves) but we quit before we poured the concrete deck--we wanted to let all the backfill settle--and honestly we were just tired of construction at that point.

So now I am revisiting an auto cover. We cannot put in an under coping cover that just covers the pool because of our grecian corners and the stairs bump out. I am looking at an in deck track that the cover would run on a couple inches from the edge of the pool. It would be flush with the deck so not a tripping hazard or anything. And I am putting in a concrete deck--not pavers or anything fancier. Opinions on these--I think it would look nice but I'm not totally sold.

Pros--water would stay cleaner/evaporate less
easy/convenient to click a button and have the pool covered
another layer of safety (although I have teens and no neighbors) it would keep animals out--not sure what kind of damage a deer could do but I don't want to find out

Cons--a bit expensive
I don't want the track to be an eyesore. But I guess my reel with a blue cover on it would be a bit of an eyesore also.
Would a bubble cover let us heat the pool with the sun more? Our pool is in direct sunlight from morning until like 6 or 7 at night. I do want to use the sun to heat it (we are in PA). Will this cover block the sun? Hope this question makes sense.

Brands anyone prefers
I have a quote from automatic pool covers inc
I am getting a quote from Cover Star and Cover pools.

Any others to recommend?

Thanks.

With no wind and relatively high humidity, you will get more heat when the pool is in the sun with the cover off. The covers generally are more for maintaining heat by reducing heat loss through evaporation/radiation ... solar cover is a really bad name for them.

If you want to heat the pool more with solar then install a solar heating system…

Cleanliness was really my big surprise/benefit for the cover, though safety was the official reason. Spring and fall both bring debris into a pool and they become non-issues with a regularly used autocover. You can keep the pool "open" until the first week of November very easily with an autocover, allowing the water to cool down before closing it (as I see you are in PA).

The recommendation I can offer is to pick an installer that has been around a while. If all of the price estimates are pretty close, then the deciding factor may come down to who is more reputable, closest and licensed in your state.

I installed a Cover Pools cover for our pool. In my area there was only 2 options, Cover Pools or Coverstar. Both installers who provided estimates were authorized to install either manufacturers product. One was here in Las Vegas, the other installer was 90 miles away.
