Spa Jet not working

Hello,

This is my second thread being a new pool owner. Thank you @1poolman1 and @ajw22 for helping me get my pool heater working!

Time to address the next problem. In my hot tub, there are four jets. Three of them shoot out water aggressively. The fourth one does not. if the bubbler is off, it actually feels like it is sucking water back in. i’m guessing this is not normal. please let me know if anyone out there knows what might be causing this problem.
 
Q,

There is a jet inside the wall, that is most likely clogged.

You should be able to take it out and clean it.

Lower the water in the spa and then look in the pipe with a flashlight and see what you can see. Should be a hex nut looking jet.

You can try to clear the jet with a long piece of stiff wire (coat hanger). Try to do it with the jets on (and the spa hot) or drain the spa into the pool and look into the jet and try it that way (you won't get real wet this way).
With the jet orifice clogged water is being pulled into the air line and will eventually cause it to get full of water and stop putting air to the other jets. Not a big problem as it will drain when the system shuts off (its full of water to the depth of the spa with the jets off anyway).

I tried the coat hanger with jets on and hot water. I was unable to break anything loose. I will try to drain the spa down and remove jet tomorrow. Let me know if you have any pointers.
 
Had same issue when mine was started up last year about this time. I knew it had to be fouled but nothing was showing up and planned to drain down for a visual. Within short order and some use, it started shooting out shards of plaster the knuckleheads sprayed, and not only from there, but a couple of others.

Once you get the water in the spa lowered, I suggest that you take all the jets out, and then run the spa for a few minutes to blow out any debris. Then reinstall the jets.

Is the process simply loosening the nut with a ratchet wrench and an extension inside the wall? I am going to try this today. thanks for all the help.

Yes, they just unscrew and come right out. In theory anyway... :mrgreen:

With the advice from several experts here, I have only worked on one spa, and they came right out with little effort. Not sure they will all be that easy.

I'd take out the bad one and see how it goes. If easy, I'd do the rest.

I’m not so sure how I feel about my repair. as you can see in the picture, with 1 turn of the hex nut, it snapped right off. I probably would’ve been more careful if I knew it was PVC. For some reason I was imagining some type of metal.

Now that I know what I’m looking at, it was definitely clogged. Even though this accidently broke off, it also took the clog with it so the jet is now working perfectly fine. I think it is fixed for now, The only problem is next time I need to replace these jets, it is going to require some more surgery to get it out since I broke the hex off. That will be a problem for another day. Glad I got it working.
