My pump finally crapped out on me. It's got to be atleast ten years old. I'm pretty sure it would cost more to repair it than it would to just buy a replacement. Started smelling a burned smell and the pump makes a loud noise before shutting off. I did get lucky, my pond has the exact same pump used for a pond fountain, so I was able to swap them out for the time being.

It's a 3/4 HP, single speed pump wired for 220 V. Any good replacements for this? I'm not wanting to go with a variable speed, don't need it. This pump runs about 10-12 hours a day, and is on a timer. I see there are TONS of similar type pumps on amazon. Anybody have any recommendations on pumps they are using?

Per law change in 2021, all filtration pumps should be Variable Speed for either replacement or new build. You can avoid that if you can find single speed motors as a direct replacement if the actual pump side is still good - try inyopools.com
They also have some economical VS pumps (new) that members on the forum have used. Also do a search on the forum for replacement pumps and you can find several ideas

So if it’s illegal, how are there all these single speed models for sale all over the internet? And what is the reasoning for this law?

There are still SS pumps below 1 HP that are compliant with new DOE regulations.

Anybody know if there are any direct replacement pumps for a Jandy flo pro? After reading some replies, I'm starting to kind of want a VS pump. Looks like I can't order a Jandy one myself though.

The DOE regulation allowed for existing stock to be sold, but pumps and motors that do not meet the requirements cannot be made nor imported to the US. Reason for the law: energy conservation. Example: in the State of California it takes the total output of 2 power plants just to power all the pool pumps here. Try to build a new plant here, not happening. It was PG&E that pushed for the California Title 20 and Title 24 regulations on pool pumps. The DOE made that type of law nationwide. California law is still more restrictive. Some DOE-compliant pumps still can't be used here.
