Hi - I wanted to know the difference between the two items.

My main purpose is to turn on my water feature through my Intellicenter Automation. I currently have a Jandy 3 way valve that feeds my water feature and my return jets. What I am looking for is to either run it at 50/50 or 75/25 when I turn on my water feature. Would I need an Intellivalve for this? Or a valve actuator will suffice?

Rich,

The IntelliValve is not an actual valve, it is just a valve actuator.

The old style valve actuators and the new IntelliValve, do the same thing.

The Old one has mechanical stops and the new IntelliValve has electronic stops.

Personally, I see no advantage in buying the new IntelliValve.

In both cases, you can only have two positions.. You can adjust where the two stops are, but it can only turn from one stop to the other. It will not have three positions.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Pentair (or their reps) teased a firmware update to allow the IntelliCenter additional control over the IntelliValves in 2018. This never came to bear and frankly towards the end of 2022 it seems a non-starter. Apparently someone decompiled the firmware on the actuator itself and the supporting code doesn't exist.

Among several other tweaks (couldn't get much info on those), the IntelliCenter programming will allow the Pentair IntelliValve (521485) to operate at five (5) different user defined positions (instead of the current two), (within 3.75 degree increments of course).
