I just had a coverstar auto cover installed. I asked if it came with a keypad and they said they discontinued the keypads because they had caused fires. Has anyone else heard this or did they just make an excuse? Thanks

I have not heard that line, that is a new one for me. I have the WiFi enabled keypad and it's a real pain. Nothing like fire issues, just connectivity and notification issues. Coverstar did just have a new version of their keypad with WiFi enabled come out, and haven't seen any recalls or fire issues!

What did yours come with, the switch, or a key? I would actually call Coverstar and ask them, could be surprised to see what they say.

Good idea. It came with a lockable cover, with switch underneath. Thanks for the heads up on the WiFi unit, that’s good to know. I did see the new one, but it’s around $900!

One more question. The non WiFi keypad is the same price as the WiFi keypad. On your WiFi keypad, is the actual functionality difficult or just the WiFi components problematic?

They both function the same, but the WiFi enabled components are problematic. Hard to connect to your network, if you can at all, and the notifications are either none, or 10 of the same messages.

Mine is older but it came with a switch key....and two keys. The installer said he didnt use a punch key pad as they tended to have more problems.

We're pretty lo-tech here so turning a key works fine for us.

The key pad is on the deck, which sits a ways above the pool but so you are looking at the pool.
